Reports of Toronto's death have been greatly exaggerated...

Up 2-0 in PHI on a Michael Bradley brace.

More like reports of Philly being good are exaggerated. They are a team along with DC and Chicago the revs need to aim for. That middle third cluster of teams in the east is reachable. The revs should be in there.

Nick DeLeon closes it out for TOR with a goal in stoppage time, 3:1 final.

NYC up 2:0 at halftime on a long range worm-burner by Ofori, and $8M-man Mitrita with a nice pass to spring Ring alone on the keeper for the 2nd goal.

Kei Kamara scores 16' in for the Rapids.

Sjoberg gets a red card for DOGSO, Howard saves the PK, but Valeri buries the rebound to make it 1:1.

It's 18 degrees and snowing in Denver....

nemeth with his first goal of the season. I'd bet he has double digits this year

The Revs are nowhere near DC in terms of talent. DC has one of the best attackers in MLS in Acosta, and the Revs have nobody the stature of Rooney or Arriola or Canouse or Hamid or Birnbaum. Chicago is more like our speed, though even there, I bet they end the season ahead of the Revs.

I was just about to say the same thing. DCU is the third best team in the east right now and I don't think it's close.

DC's vulnerability is their depth. The only forward on their roster other than Rooney is Quincy Amarikwa. Even if Rooney has no injuries, they'll need to rest him, and they'll be much less effective when they do.

I don't really agree with that. Their attack has a lot of interchangeable pieces and doesn't rely on a true #9.

I know, thank god we’ve got some bench depth, unlike DC...

We have depth in attack and GK. It'd make sense for us to trade a forward (Bunbury or Agudelo) to DC in exchange for a defender or a #6 (Junior Moreno or Chris Durkin).

i'd have no issues unloading one of those guys. This would in theory give Rennicks a better chance to develop

I think the chances of DC trading Durkin are extremely slim. They see a 7 figure european sale in his future in the next 2 years.

Moreno I know less about, but with Durkin, Moreno, and Canouse there has to be an odd man out

Right - they could loan Durkin to us for playing time; or they could trade Moreno to us to get Durkin more playing time.

I think we too often assess our depth relative to our starters. Since we do not have an adequate set of starters, the logic seems faulty. I’d argue that we have no adequate MLS starting quality keeper. Most MLS teams would only reluctantly start any of our three keepers. Similarly, all of our forwards are flawed, setting aside C2 who we haven’t seen play yet.

So yes, we start what most teams would call their B team and we have depth to our B team. Could we first pull together an adequate A team and next provide some real depth to that?

I agree it would make sense for us to make a trade (and I’d part with any all of our GKs + Bunbury + Agudelo) but I think most teams would see the flaws in what we have to offer. They’d factor that into what they are willing to give up in trade.

Bunbury was a starting striker on a mediocre team last year, is known for workrate, is cheap ($215k, half the price of Darren Mattocks last year), and versatile. Almost any team outside of the top 4 would be happy to have him as a backup.

I'd argue that we frequently undervalue many of our own players given that we've never really seen them perform for experienced coaches or in an established system. Kelyn Rowe is on an expiring contract and was benched for long stretches, and we traded him for one of the best left backs in the league.

So happy they’d give a starter for him? A real starter not a Revolution starter. Please, repeat the Rowe trade 10 more times if you can.

Your point on our players not benefiting from talented coaching is well taken. That said, I still feel we have a lot of players that are B team getting A team spots.
