Hate it. Have to wait before I get a jersey with the star, I guess, but it saves me some money. Thin stripes suck. Not enough gold. Not liking the red socks. So long as the team is good.
Do we know if lettering & numbers for the backs of the jerseys are different this year or same as last year?
What's the big deal this year with the Galaxy's stars? I was under the impression that league policy was a silver start for a Cup title, a gold start represented 5 titles. Therefore Galaxy could either wear 5 silver or one gold. But if I look at their shirt now, it looks like they've got 9 titles.
I like the idea of the city skyline, or some element of the city being featured on the kits... it can be as subtle as Seattle Space Needle from years back
As for the new Atlanta, Montreal, and San Jose primary shirts... I’m not a fan of so much black. While I like the uniqueness (for MLS at least) of the blue-and-black, and red-and-black, stripes, why do the backs have to be black? Why not red? And blue? Would make them more distinctive. (And, Mtl used to wear all blue, IIRC.) I like SJ in the blue/black/blue. Looks sharp. And would be a distinguishing kit, if they’d stick to it. In general, if you’ve got a non-black color, ISTM you’d want to use it as the dominant color of your primary. I’d like to see some more teams use all black as a secondary color, instead of so many using white.
If you mean using black as the secondary kit instead of all the white ones current in MLS as away kits - that cannot happen. The league requires 1 dark kit and 1 light kit. As there are no thirds in MLS most teams pick white away kits for the light kits like most other US sports do.
The Dynamo have the primary orange (assuming that we get another one this year) and the black secondary. The orange is a fairly light shade so it seems to me that Houston could possibly keep the black secondary. It isn't that different than the Galaxy who have a white primary and a dark blue/black secondary this year. We'll see what happens next year.

The Houston orange is considered a light color by the league so they can have the black for the away. They would not be able to do a white away anymore like they have in the past as that would be 2 light kits and not allowed.
It really does make the league kit selections kind of boring, but I do understand the league's thinking there, lest they end up in situations like this...
Completely agreed! Also, perhaps the only good thing about the San Jose Earthquakes' new primary jersey is that, unlike the previous version, any closeup of the logo patch and championship stars will have blue surrounding them. -G

Gotta love the Rapids PR department. They decided to call a jersey with no black on it the Black Diamond kit.
