It would be cool to go in on the 17th and attend their home game that day.

Their league is giving them no help with that schedule.

Allright ! -- airfare and hotel for Guatemala City are booked. Will arrive on Sunday 2/17 depart on Wednesday 2/20. Found me a spanish fluent buddy to go along.

We are looking at a volcano tour for Monday 2/18 or Tuesday 2/19. Anyone else from Dynamo want to join up on such a thing then PM me. I'm staying at the Westin and they have a hotel promoted tour operator I would consider safe. (If anyone knows otherwise for lord's sake let me know.)

According to Google that is a 9-hour drive each way! I wonder if it would be easier to see that place from Belize City. It looks pretty amazing.

i backpacked for a couple of weeks in Guatemala in 1991. a charter plane was the only recommended mode of transportation to Tikal. didn't go because "plane" (notice the quotes) was really another word for a couple of seats tied to a lawnmower engine.

that was almost 30 years ago when they were still shooting at each other, so i'm sure the tourist industry is a bit more developed these days. if you have extra days at least do a sidetrip to Ciudad Antigua.

An update on how Guastatoya is doing so far this season:

    1/13/19: Antigua (6) - Loss 1-2
    1/20/19: @ Sanarate (10) - Loss 3-0
    1/27/19: @ Petapa (11) - Draw 0-0
    1/30/19: Malecateco (4)
    2/3/19: @ Municipal (8)
    2/10/19: Comunicaciones (3)
    2/13/19: @ Iztapa (9)
    2/17/19: Siquinala (7)
    2/19/19: DYNAMO
    2/24/19: @ Xelaju (2)
    2/26/19: @ DYNAMO
    3/3/19: Coban Imperial (5)

    Team's Apertura standing in parentheses.

Guastatoya is in last place in the Clausura standings. They have played a couple of road games after the home loss but their schedule hasn't been very tough so far.

Only USA vs. Mexico clash here in the quarters to start off with K.C. and Toluca.

Then we get to witness just how well Atlanta Utd does on the road for the first time in regional action.

Feel gratified on Herediano. I thought that SKC-Toluca would be a solid match-up and Herediano-ATL would be entertaining.

Don’t think I expected Toluca to bomb that badly. I know they’ve been bad in league play, but they’ve been a solid team in Liga MX for several years now. Toluca is a hell of a place to play away though. Intimidating stadium and the altitude is killer. Higher than Mexico City.

Herediano was a nice introduction to CONCACAF for ATL. Central American teams, especially the big Costa Rican teams in Saprissa, Alajuelense, and Herediano are no joke, especially in away games. Toss in Olimpia and maybe Motagua and there are 5 Central American teams that I’d say our a serious challenge if you meet them in this competition.

They played liked they were at home and in mid-season form! Dumb@sses, you go down there and secure a 0-0, there is no shame in doing that. They are lucky it wasn't 5-1.

    Correct.
More so when it is your club's first ever regional competition match. Just go conservative and see that first ever game through. 0-0 no worries.
Our first ever match was that wild 1-0 loss to Puta-renas. Remember that match y'all? Our staff gets pelted with missles after the red card to Eddie wasn't it!
We were the defending league champions and went on to win 2-0 in the return leg at a college campus outside of town. Which Atl Utd is the defending league champion and will be playing at a college campus outside of their town. We will see!

Atlanta fans are going to go apoplectic when Herediano goes full CONCACAF on their asses. Delaying the game. Working the ref. Rolling around on the ground being stretchered off constantly just to run back on. Parking the bus and denying Altanta any room to play in front of their goal.

At least it isn't Arabe Unido doing it. They take CONCACAFing to a whole nother level.
