It's completely different because France didn't break fifa rules. They didn't induct players into their national team who had spent a couple years living in their country.

i had underestimated just how good the imported/purchased african almoez is. he is bordering eto o/drogba levels. so it is no surprise he will run rampant against AFC teams. he killed off the game with individual skill at the beginning and thus we never got to see what japan vs qatar would have actually looked liked. also, in hilarious fashion, japan got karma'd with a bs handball penalty that got them into the final themselves, at 2-1 it killed off the game for them when they still had 10 min to get back. although the one called against Iran was even more ridiculous because japanese player was at least in the air and still could be suspected of raising his hand too high. but seriously the hand ball rule in the box needs a huge overall. qatar got lucky for these reasons. the guy who scored the 2nd goal is good at taking shots though he also did it against south korea. 2 small moments of brilliant individual skill out of nowhere + a lame penalty handed qatar the trophy. gotta say they have improved a lot though, they can now safely say they are a top 3 asian side. japan/Iran/qatar were a class above all other asian teams this tournament.

but the rise of this qatar side shows one thing. it is a trend. a pattern you see with many successful teams. it happened with spains golden generation, iraqs golden generation, now this qatari team, and probably many more. a group of players moving together from early age into the national team. good youth planning. la masia, aspire, etc... it shows that population is not important for football success. you need good youth systems, then 5/6 players build the core of the golden generation and move up year levels until they reach national team levels. they have very good chemistry together, a huge advantage over other national teams whos players play for diff clubs and come together once in a while to hold a camp. these national teams play more like club teams. you only have 11 on the pitch so whether your population is 1 million or 1 billion doesnt matter. as long as you find a handful of players and train them properly and provide everything for them when they are young, keep them together until they reach national team age, then you are good to go. this is why teams like japan and qatar have gotten so good. although of course qatar has benefited from importing foreigners purely for the purpose of cultivating them for their "national" football team: there is no way qatar would have ever reached these heights without doing this. for example look at almoez' influence on qatars run in this tournament... without him they would definitely not have reached such heights. whereas teams like Iran rely on individual talent to drag themselves to the top, but individual talent with organization can only get you so far, as we have seen.

well gotta give credit to your federation. they finally learned that simply purchasing foreigners and dropping them into the team is less effective than cultivating and farming foreign children around the world at an early age for the purposes of making them play for the qatari "national" team so they develop together via foreign coaches payed for by oil money and build chemistry together is more efficient. one would have that you guys would have figured this out 30 years, no idea what took so long. but decades later here we are.

japans goal was much better than qatars goals. shitty qatari defending plus superb japanese passing. qatar scored 2 individual goals out of nowhere + a gifted penalty. japan scored an amazing team goal.

thats pretty retarded. at this rate it is more efficient to target players' hands than the goal. hand ball needs to be CLEARLY deliberate for it to be a penalty. all grey area calls should be a free kick inside the box.

its a grey area. if you ever jumped you would know that it is natural instinct to raise your arm. but at the same time it is borderline suspicious. what is for sure is that the penalty they got against Iran was much softer than this. but this still should not have been a penalty.

they were not by far the better team. an imported eto o individually scored a wonder goal out of absolutely nowhere, created a chance from thin air, it was a very early goal that changed the shape of the game. then again qatar got another individual goal out of nowhere. despite that, japan still managed to score, showing their superiority over qatar in terms of scoring a team goal. japan defended and attacked better than qatar today. then the game was killed off via a ridiculous penalty. at most these teams were even today, or japan was slightly better.

i didnt see a solid defense by qatar. the goal against japan was the hallmarks of a shitty defense.

if you cant see the difference you are blind. the foreign players who play for those countries go to those countries to live, then they happen to be interested in soccer, then they happen to be selected for the national team.

qatar, on the other hand, literally goes looking for children around the world, purchases them, then farms and cultivates them via foreign coaches for the sole purpose of boosting the maroon colored shirt, to bring "national" pride.

and prior to cultivating kids, they simply shopped around the world and paid south american mercenaries money for citizenship and them immediately put them on the national team. it is a ridiculous practice.. if all countries started doing this national teams would lose their purpose and would just double up as club teams. i dont get why qataris are happy for the win.. it is like buying european architects and celebrating when they design a nice tall building in qatar and saying "we are champion architects of asia."

Have you watched the game ? Qataris had fatigue problems and Japan scored it was a game for Japan to come back at that point and I expected Qataris would cracked down. Thats why I was wondering about their mental status.

Yeah and keep in mind we had one less rest day than Japan, also our best defender was knocked out of the game before the pressure piled up.

Kudos to Japan for the fight. Very good game.

The only thing I'm happy about with Qatar winning is that it appears that they'll be a decent representative for AFC in their World Cup in terms of quality if they keep their team developing well.

Yeah can’t wait to see what this team can do with 80,000 supporters in 2022’s opening match, the opponent would be an african or 2nd tier european team probably, we got this!!!

Getting ahead of myself lol just kidding.

We already have club football where you can buy players from all over the world to build a great team.

National football is supposed to be different. Each nation is supposed to being together their best players from their nations to compete.

Japan used Japanese players. But Qatar used Africans, Europeans etc and foreign players who were not even eligible to represent Qatar. It has made a mockery of international football

You'd think the one thing that we can guarantee in international football is that countries would be using players eligible to represent their country but that is not the case. All those who recruited their own people and played by the rules lost out. Nothing good for football comes out of this result

it is really sad that many asian teams do not develop the sport properly in their country. for example Iran, our national team players come from the street. then we have japan and qatar who spend 100s of millions on the sport from a young age, with all the infrastructure, youth systems etc... Iran is operating on raw talent alone. we would be the untouchable kings of asia, like the 70s, had we caught up in these departments. but for the past 40 years there is no indication that this will ever happen. teams like japan and saudi and australia and skorea and now qatar are advancing in asia due to these advantages but teams like Iran and iraq have remained stagnant.

thats the whole point of this qatari team. they invested heavily in order to not embarrass themselves for 2022 since they would be hosting it.
