Sure, let's do this again... Friday, November 22, 2019 Utica @ Baltimore - 2,643 Florida @ Orlando - 1,356 Monterrey @ Sonora - 4,500 Kansas City @ Turlock - 430
Besides Sonora, the attendance was really bad. I know Turlock has a seating capacity around 500 but that’s still bad for the league. But the games were good games to watch.
Utica might not be leading the league in announced attendance, but they are leading the league in arena capacity percentage!
Saturday, November 30, 2019 Harrisburg @ Rochester - no report St. Louis @ Kansas City - 4,211 Dallas @ Mesquite - 3,359 San Diego @ Tacoma - 3,191 Disclaimer time: I only report what each team states as their "announced" attendance. This may or may not differ from actual attendance. I try to keep my sarcastic remarks to a minimum.
MASL total attendance is 36,745. The average is 3,062 out of 12 games. * One game not announced in Rochester.
Wednesday, December 4, 2019 Monterrey @ Mesquite - 4,536 Dallas @ Sonora - 2,000 Mesquite School Day Game
I know you largely don't want to comment, but you have to at least put Sonora's 4,500 and 2,000 in quotes.
It's the double whammy of 1) playing in Kissimmee and 2) not marketing themselves. Fans are actually staging a walkout to protest the GM. They're mad because the team fired head coach (and long time local soccer personality) Tom Traxler. Considering how few people actually go to the games, I doubt they'd notice.
When did they fire the coach? Looks like ,Chris K. is the gm/coach. Not sure what really is going on jn Orlando, but coaches get fired all the time in sports and the bottom line is the Seawolves are not winning. The Seawolves are a totally different team from what they were last season. They have a lot of new talent and even more talent on the inactive roster that could really give the team a boost. Not sure if there was any affordable/available arenas in the area other than the one in Kissimmee. Looks like a good arena for indoor soccer and their turf and boards look good as well, But the attendance definitely needs improvement and it doesn't look like they are doing a very good job marketing the team. Look at the attendance of Mesquite and returning Sonora already this season! One thing I see, their sideline ticket prices are too high ($30 plus fees) They should mimic the Tropics sideline prices ($25 and under, fees included) But the behind goal and family pack seats are priced reasonably. Their are plenty of ways to market this team, people in the league to consult, and if they have tried to the best of their ability (which it does not look like) then indoor soccer just doesn't work in Orlando. Playing on weeknights don't help either. Although some teams in this league play on weeknights and do ok. Weekend dates are usually better for indoor soccer. I know these teams probably get a better deal with the arena for playing on weeknights, but it kind of defeats the purpose with the drop in attendance. Monterrey is playing the most of their home games on Monday nights this season, I guess that works for them, but weeknights usually don't work. Good luck to Orlando as they face the Blast tonight in front of a packed house! Maybe they can ask Mr. Hale for some marketing tips and advise while they are in town. Hopefully things get better in O-Town or the Sea Wolves could be the next team to fold or relocate!
Hard fought overtime game in Turlock last night. Congrats to both teams! New players, new coach, new uniforms, new turf! Things are looking much better for the Express. So far they look like a tough team to beat!
