I think Jim did an excellent job in this game considering overall squad rotation, the upcoming game on Friday, and the excellent shitsandwich he was served with the red card x 2 fiasco. A never in question domination of a team you should dominate. Fun, done, dusted. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Are people still really confused by the stadium being empty for a 4th round Open Cup match? It's been like 7 years, people.
I've certainly come to expect it, but for a team that is cash strapped it seems odd to just throw more money away. I noticed a couple MLS teams declined to submit to host this round because of the money they lose.
I think they do choose to spend the cash on it because Open Cup success is really the only thing we ever have going for us.
To be fair, the FO commissioned an in-depth analytical probability study using the top undergraduate mathematical minds from both Widener AND Southern New Hampshire (Online) Universities which concluded the USOC was the second-most probable chance of the Union have of ever winning silverware, hence the decision to prioritize this tournament. For the record, the study also concluded that the Florida Preseason Giant Check Cup was our best chance, but we already "checked" that box a few years ago.
Truth. If you count AET & PK wins-losses as regulation ties, the Union carry a record of 9-3-11 in Open Cup play. A lofty 1.65 PPG. Now, granted that gets padded with USL & lower squads, but still...would be nice to carry something close to that into an actual MLS season. ~56 point seasons would be sweet.
