Thoughts at 60’ on the young guys: - Kuzain and Amor are good - Busio and Didic are not ready for prime time - Lindsey is still green but can be a backup for Zusi already - Belmar, hard to really tell in this formation, he hasn’t had much service
Well, that went just about as well as it possibly could have. Russell and Belmar with a goal and an assist each. Busio and Lindsey both go 90. Zendejas played really well also. Kuzain continues to look really good on the ball. No injuries. Rest for Zusi, Opara, and Melia, and most of the game off for Espinoza, Gerso, and Salloi. Just a really good night all around. Way to go, boys.
Total agreement, but wondering if anyone who has seen more of SPR has had the same basic thought about Didic at that level as well? He has looked slow and kind of lost when i've seen him. As always noted with Busio, it's amazing he's where he is right now. Amor should be getting more games with SKC. Am I correct in that he can play either CB spot? Also, was that a 5-3-2 or a 3-5-2? Is it worth trotting out again in league at some point?
We’ve been grouped with Dallas, Houston, and Minnesota for today’s draw. Another all MLS match up (12 of our last 14 counting this upcoming one).
All the Fourth Round winners will find out their next opponent at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 7 when U.S. Soccer conducts the Round of 16 Draw, which will reveal the final bracket for the 2018 U.S. Open Cup. The Draw will take place at U.S. Soccer headquarters in Chicago and will be streamed live on ussoccer.com. We play Dallas at home next, then if we win, go on the road against either Houston or Minnesota (probably Houston).
Funny story. I kept waiting to hear them announce it and they never did. It looked like about 2,000 though...
Great result. Only problem I have with the way it all played out is that Russell and Ilie played so much. Oh well. Maybe they'll be great all year long anyways. I know some of these changes are forced by injury, but squad rotation is feeling more organic this season.
Saturday, 6/16, 8:00 p.m. against Dallas. That cuts into our World Cup break: 6/9 at Portland 6/16 vs Dallas 6/23 vs Houston 6/30 at Montreal 7/4 at Salt Lake 7/7 vs Toronto 7/14 at Red Bulls 7/28 vs Dallas If we beat Dallas, our next game against either Houston or Minnesota would likely fall between the 7/14 and 7/28 league games.
It looks like FCD is brining a full 1st team roster to CMP with no notable exceptions. This will be a real test with all the injuries that SKC is experiencing. I´m a bit nervous about this one with the home field being the only advantage I see in this game. I haven´t seen an up to date injury report so the status of Besler and Shelton is still a mystery. Will PV think enough of the performance of the teenagers to play them again? Well, he may not have a choice. Defensively, SKC performed fairly well against Portland, but I think FCD has a better attack. Both teams are even with goals conceded at 14, but SKC has scored more with 28 to FCD 24 (statistic is skewed due to the 6-0 score vs 9 man Vancouver) This game looks even on paper, but with the glaring differences in lineups due to injuries, it could prove otherwise.
As noted, winning the Cup this year doesn't give us a CCL spot, and might weigh us down in late July and August, so a loss isn't a disaster
glad they're streaming this match as well. i thought they might not given that it's a home match. now that i'm no longer a season ticket holder, i don't feel compelled to go to games where i'd be miserable, but muscle through it because i'd already paid for it. hopefully, we put out a youthful side again. give all the starters a 2-week break until our next league match. would be nice to win, but honestly, i don't care much at all.
It's not really SKC's call on the stream, US Soccer is pretty much requiring it at this point. I don't think we're putting out a youth team, I think it'll be pretty close to first team minus guys like Besler who are coming off injury.
Also, more Open Cup games on the weekend, calling tonight a sellout wouldn’t have surprised me at all
Lindsey and Kuzain are both getting into their routine now that they have strung a number of games together. Both still have a way to go, but really looked good tonight. I really like Johnny, but he just didn’t show up tonight. Salloi just keeps getting better and better. I hope SKC can hold on to him for at least a couple of more seasons. And lastly, Yohan! Opens up a bottle of kick ass and hits a game winner for the ages. That was the electrifying moment of the match.
The Star gave the attendance as 15,238. That seems way low. There weren't many empty seats and there was the usual standing crowd in front of the Cauldron.
