I didn't see a thread started and only some discussion at the end of the Chicago match thread. A friend and I are flying from BWI to Houston on the 26th and staying near the airport. Any word from the FO or SOB if tickets will be available through the Union? I assume there will be an away supporters section.
For those planning to go to Houston. Our fabulous travel director is working on coordinating tickets as well as group hotel pricing and possible group flight pricing. We are also looking into a viewing party for those staying in Philly! Stay tuned for more info!— Sons of Ben (@SonsofBen) August 9, 2018 ------ So I guess we'll find out soon. That said, what the hell is there to do in Houston? I looked at some travel sites and it sounds incredibly boring. Visiting the NASA center might be sort of amusing. It's probably a tourist trap, though. I'm actually considering a vacation in Austin and just driving down for the game.
1 Sweat 2 Admire the refiners southwest of the city from your hotel window 3 Comment on the humidity 4 Try to remember if you’re flying out of Hobby or IAH 5 Apply for a job in the energy sector I tend to drink here http://www.beerknurd.com/locations/houston-flying-saucer The Grove on Discovery Green in front of the CC is solid eats. Relaxed- https://8thwonder.com/ If you’re into the history stuff, Sam Houston Park preserves early Texas life, which to my eye looks like recent Texas life. Astros are on the road that week in case you wanted to double up. Strip clubs? Strip malls? Kind of it.
I have some friends down there, so that helped, but for the most part we went bar hopping. (Which was fine with me)
If anyone wants to get a custom golf club fitting while you're there, hit up Club Champion. It may or may not be a project I designed and documented. It's a modest little storefront that will gouge you at every chance to upsell you on the latest and greatest technology out there. You know, if you have a few Gs to burn.
I believe tickets go on sale to the public today. My buddy from Houston may go to this game as his first ever Dynamo game. Hope it sells well and he has a good time/atmosphere. Also hope a lot of sad Dynamo fans leave the building post game.
Tickets go on sale at 11:00 AM. https://tix.axs.com/KSnQIgAAAABewDzVAAAAAABM/v///wD/////BkR5bmFtbwD//////////w==/closed
Problem with Houston during the time the game is there is that downtown is booked solid due to a big convention. I got a room out near the Galleria due to convenience and it wasn't the cost of my flight, car, and other hotels for one night. But due to that I'm only staying one night and am flying in and out of Austin and spending a night or two in San Antonio as well. Sure Houston has some great bars and eateries but the convention has screwed that for me.
hope the SoBs and Union fans have a good showing. Sounds like a lot of people have interest in traveling.
Any ideas on supporters or union block seating? Looks like they are only selling one side of the stadium right now
Sounds like they are selling the TV side first and as demand dictates they will open up other parts of the stadium. As for what the supporters are doing, I dunno. I'd assume that they are going to do a supporters section somewhere. I bought a ticket on my own since I've been in a supporters section for two finals. Hasn't ended well either time. So might as well try something new.
I emailed my ticket rep yesterday to see if the Union are arranging any ticket sales. Haven't heard back from him yet, and I haven't seen any news on the SOB twitter feed since 8/9 when they said they were working on a block of tickets. While I'm not an SOB, I think I'd rather be with fellow fans for an away title match. I'll post when I hear from my rep.
The Facebook discussion has more info. There was a poll asking if people would rather have an all-inclusive option or just hotel/transportation (no ticket included). Most people wanted the latter. I'd probably take that option to be honest. Being able to get in and get out on a bus and to tailgate with everyone seems like a much less stressful option. Plus I already booked my tickets...
Heard back from my ticket rep on Fri. The Union aren't yet sure if they are going to simply promote the SOB ticket/travel package (not yet finalized), or if the club will have it's own arrangement. They are going to sort out final details this coming week.
Update on the Facebook group. They are still working on it. Also, if you want to take the bus in, staying at the designated hotel is required.
Here it is. So for two, it's $218. One night, with bus to stadium and back, breakfast, and airport shuttle. Ticket info to come later.
Which airport is this at? I'm flying into/out of Hobby. Also those prices are not that great. I got a hotel at Hobby for $90. I will likely stick with my bookings and buy a ticket only option.
It's IAH. I can get a 3.5 star hotel on Hotwire for $95. Not sure if the bus is worth $120 for me. I could rent a car at IAH and find parking around the stadium for that much.
Ticket Sales update... Blue sections are the ones the Dynamo are currently selling. A few of the gray ones were previously for sale and sold out. Most of the ones currently up for sale have a majority of seats sold. Also doesn't cover Houston supporters section, a section that I assume the SoBs/Philly fans reserved and I assume Dynamo STHs who bought through the team and happen to have seats in sections not for sale. 22,000 seat stadium sooooo I'm ball-parking they have around 50% sold? 10-11K so far?
I arrive Houston (Hobby) at 9:35am on Wed and we are staying at the Holiday Inn Houston-Hobby Airport. If anyone wants to split an Uber, we're in. I hope the hotel has luggage storage for my unmentionables, pretty sure we will be heading downtown before 3:00pm.
