Steffen had an incredible save, SOTW quality, to preserve a 2-1 edge late last game. With our stash of Garber bucks (some of which are for 2019) we should land another serious attacker this year.
Not sure if it was mentioned but we had a young Brazilian player on trial with us last week....19 year old winger/attacking midfielder Geovane from Sao Paulo (Arturs old club).
How did he do ? Also I feel we are thin at Striker and outside back Is there any other positions anyone thinks we need more depth? If Zardes May get call ups with USMNT we would be foolish not to get another striker unless they feel Hansen or the kid we drafted are a viable option. We really have plenty of wingers unless Grella and Hansen will be out for a long time. Any time frame on all our injured players?
When will the USMNT be playing this year? Are we doing warmup matches for other countries? I hope they didn't schedule a post world cup victory tour like the ladies do.
Crognale loaned to Orange County S.C. in California. Does this mean we are bringing in another center back or that Sauro is good to go?
Reading between the lines, perhaps this means Sauro's status is promising. Which would be a good thing.
I hope Sauro recovers but with his game rust I would prefer him on loan instead of Crognale. Plus, I'm a bit of a Crognale homer.
I’m pretty sure Andrew Erickson wrote something quoting Gregg that Crognale would be loaned out to get minutes and be brought back later in the season.
Yeah, it's a game by game loan rather than a full season deal. So he should still count on the Crew's roster and budget. But he's probably one of the budget exempt home growns.
According to OCSC, it's a season long loan with the option to recall. Not a major difference, but still. Also, not surprisingly, Crew's press release incorrectly said Oliver Wyss was OCSC's coach, but he hasn't been for awhile. This year they are led by former MLS journeyman Braeden Cloutier, and last year they had someone else whose name escapes me at the moment.
Crew site still says Crognale's loan is game by game. But let's say I don't have a great deal of confidence in the accuracy of the Crew website. https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/post/2018/03/15/crognale-loaned-orange-county-sc
I lack confidence there as well, but aside from semantics, is there really any difference between "game by game" and "full season loan with option to recall?" Either one, we send him a plane ticket and he's in Columbus 6 hours later.
Just noticed this report.... REPORT: @ColumbusCrewSC looking to sign 21-year-old Argentine attacker Joaquin #Torres. He currently plays in the Argentine First Division for Newell's Old Boys in the Argentine First Division. His club is asking for $2,000,000 for 80% of his rights. #SaveTheCrew pic.twitter.com/wZvB8JdZb6— Christian Pereira ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (@CrewSoccer96) March 16, 2018 21 year old, right winger, Joaquin Torres from Newells. Apparently weve been interested in him just as long as Valenzuela (also from Newells) but left back was the priority over the offseason. Newell's have already raised their asking price substantially. It is now $4,000,000 for 70% of his rights. #SaveTheCrew https://t.co/2icc90GFem— Christian Pereira ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (@CrewSoccer96) March 16, 2018 Apparently they aren't as keen to let him go, but the club is also tight on cash so who knows. Can't see us spending 4 mil though, especially after all the money we just spent on Santos and Valenzuela.
I think if we send him for the full season, he doesn't count on our roster. He'd also be off our salary budget to the extent a new club pays him. With a USL team, it won't matter but last season I think we got roster and cap relief with Saravia.
No way we pay 4 mil , hard to say how negotiators inflate numbers to get whatever the true minimum they would accept. I would guess we look for another player if they won’t take 2 million for him.
Yeah I really can't see Precourt spending more than 2 mil. I would think a loan for that Geovane dude would be more likely....then you can purchase after you've "test drove" so to speak.
I'm pleased that they are still willing to spend on DPs and transfer fees. Is Santos still a DP this year? I think the way MLS counts transfer fees is they are attached to the player for his first year in the league, then after that it's just the player's salary.
