Armchair Analyst: Wondo on the brink of history | #MLSIsBack in 12 Days 12 days to the @MLS season.@ChrisWondo needs 12 goals to break Landon Donovan's MLS goals record. pic.twitter.com/1sRxCS2ebn— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) February 19, 2018
I actually think that Wondo has two or three seasons left in him. The dude borders on ageless. Also, his game doesn't really depend on speed. (Which is good because he doesn't have any.) I expect him to start every game for the first ten or twelve weeks, then maybe after that, he starts coming on as a sub, which could even stretch his career. I'd like to see him finish with twenty more goals that freaking Narcissus. Go Quakes!! - Mark
I agree, and I think with Urena leaving it will probably actually help keep Wondo on the field. We really don't have a lot of depth at forward. I suppose Quincy will be first sub, and then maybe put one one of our midfielders like Vako or Magnus up top.
I’d roll with TT tucked under Hoesen at forward. His off the ball movement is almost as good as Wondo’s and it will open up space for Vako/Mags/Hyka to exploit scoring opportunities.
He could be the Tom Brady of soccer and play till 40 if he wants to. I can see a scenario where he finally settles into a sub role his last few years but yeah, I think he could be a regular starter for another few years after this one. There's no doubt in my mind he can continue to be effective. The question is when we are more productive playing someone else. At some point he's going to be a 10-goal guy and there's another guy who is a 12-goal guy, and I think it's that, more than him not being effective anymore, that's going to finally tilt the scales so that he is no longer a regular starter.
The weird thing about Wondo is that he appears (to me) to be just as "fast" at the end of 90 as he was at the beginning. I think he is essentially a marathoner masquerading as a forward. I'd be interested to see a graph showing all of his MLS goes against time in the match - I'd be surprised if the mean wasn't significantly skewed towards the left...
So sick of this guy already... New LA Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham felt disrespected in San Jose Bingham said he felt disrespected by Earthquakes management – and that he wasn't the only player who felt this way. “I think there's just big differences of opinion between [the club and myself], and we knew it wasn't going to work out,” Bingham said. "And it wasn't just me. There were six other players that are actually full internationals that they got rid of, too, so it was a little surprising. But we kind of knew what was coming.”
I hope LA sign another "full international" named Cato to make Bingham feel better. Dom can give them a hug.
Based on the story, the other six internationals released would be (1) Bernardez (2) Urena (3) Cato (4) Colvey (5) Dawkins (6) Ceren Did any or all feel dissed?
Who cares if they do? Players get cut and traded all the time. It's high-level professional sports. The Quakes front office should strive to always be professional and polite (unlike Bingham and his dad), but their obligation is to improve their roster, not to make sure players who are no longer in their plans don't "feel dissed"...
"Full international" means "plays for the national team" (as opposed to a youth international)...whether a player is a dual-national (NZ and US for Colvey) or not isn't relevant to that term. All the players mentioned (and Bingham) are full internationals, including Colvey who has 15 caps for the NZ men's team.
I think Bings meant international in the sense of playing for their National Team. (I see that X beat to it. We were typing at the same time I think.) Whatever, I could do without the whining and the desire to play for the scum-sucking, cheating, league-favored, smog-breathing, water-stealing galactowankers. Sorry, Bings, hope you concede a record 7.0 GAA this season. So long dude. Go Quakes!! - Mark
Godoy goal from last season is shown at the end of this new MLS commercial (with some Atlanta rapper named 2 Chainz)...
Bingham said "six other players that are actually full internationals" and those six all fit, whereas Andreas Imperiale has never played for any national team at any level (certainly not Argentina's full national team, the very thought is absurd), so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it's unlikely Bingham would have been referring to him.
Looking at the comments on the MLS article, it seems to me that a lot of the LA fans are not particularly thrilled with his comments. I sort of feel for him - he languished behind Busch for years and then was supplanted suddenly, but he really does need to grow up.
This is my tribute space. Got a lifetime of memories wrapped up there. Only wish I had some NASL Quakes jerseys.
