Agree with this, and think there is another factor with Luke/Luis - both were quite effective in the last half of the season and a big factor in the resurgence of the club. Nothing would kill the morale of the club more than tossing the two of them away in the off-season. That may be ultimately what happens, but a savvy coach knows that his entire squad is watching other players and following their contribution and on-field results. They're also watching how their coach treats those players when they do produce results. A savvy coach is patient and lets performance dictate how the game day roster unfolds and doesn't force it for some theoretically potential upgrade. Both Luke and Luis likely have significant allies in the clubhouse. As fans, we often don't understand how important it is for lineup changes to be justified to the squad.
