Players report for training on Monday, so it's time to start a new thread, right? Games announced : - February, 3rd : LA Galaxy - Salt Lake (Kino Sports Complex, Tucson, Mobile Mini Sun Cup) - February, 10th : LA Galaxy - NYCFC (StubHub Center) - February, 17th : LA Galaxy - San Jose Earthquakes (Orange County Great Park, Irvine) - February, 24th : LA Galaxy - Whitecaps Vancouver (StubHub Center)
Wow, only 13 days until our (half-)new team plays its first game! I'm guessing sever starting returnees -- Alessandrini, Boateng, Dos Santos brothers, Pedro (?), Romney or Steres, and Cole. And hopefully no Ciani! Note that most of our new starters will play in the "spine" of our team- new goalkeeper, center back and center forward (assuming Ola will be playing there instead of the wing). Possibly a new starting center mid as well but I think Pedro will at least begin the season as a starter. So this is my best guess of how we will lineup for our first preseason game: ---------------------------------------Kamara*----------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------GDS-------------------------------------------- --------Boateng----------------------------------------------------Alessandrini---- ---------------------------------JDS--------Pedro------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------Cole--------------------Skjelvik*-Romney--------------Feltscher*-------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------Bingham*------------------------------------------ *new player
I put out what I thought our first preseason game starting lineup will be, not what I thought it should be. LA invested a lot of money in Pedro so I expect the starting position will be his to lose. Kitchen will have to outshine him in preseason to wrest the starting role away. It will be interesting to see if Sigi alternates players like Pedro and Kitchen during the preseason. He could do it within games (each plays a half) or across games (Pedro starts 1st game, Kitchen starts second). We will probably see a similar situation with Ciani vs Romney/Steres if Ciani is still around.
I'm guessing they're playing at Orange County SC's stadium. Has anyone ever been to that stadium or the park? I've never been and am curious about the park but definitely want to watch the Galaxy game.
Pedro lost his starting DMid position before Curt was canned and IIRC, lost his backup position to Garcia under Sigi. It's possible that he has changed, but I don't think that that the Galaxy have such a big investment in him that he deserves to start over anybody.
Looks like in addition to the game against Fresno FC, we're also playing in a tournament in Arizona while we're there. Should have a lot of games under our belt this preseason, including the three local ones previously announced. https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2018/...fresno-fc-santa-barbara-during-2018-preseason
And, simply, NOBODY should start because of the investment instead of the effectiveness of their play. Nobody. (I'm looking at you, GDS).
I haven't been yet, but it's right down the street from my house. I'm going try and go to the game though.
Pedro didn't "lose" his DMid position under Curt; Curt started him as an 8 next to Husidic as DMid and LA enjoyed their best run of form for the whole season. He lost his starting 8 role when Jona was brought in, but Sigi still played him as an 8 when Jona wasn't available. I expect Kitchen to start @ Dmid and Pedro or Husidic to be the first back-up to Jona.
Apparently, we are playing a game on Saturday in the Mobile Mini-Sun Cup in Tucson (and that is our only participation in the tournament) http://www.fctucson.com/mobileminisuncup Saturday, February 3, 2018 LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake 3:30 PM Kino North Stadium
Loooking at all the pictures taken from our Arizona camp, it looks like the players around are : 1 - Bingham 2 - Kitchen 3 - Cole 4 - Romney 5 - Steres 6 - Baggio 7 - Alessandrini 8 - Jona 10 - Gio 11 - Kamara 12 - Sylvestre 14 - Carrasco 15 - Lassiter 16 - Skjelvik 17 - Lletget 19 - Pontius 20 - Hilliard-Arce (Draftee) 21 - Arellano 22 - Klimenta 24 - Boateng 25 - Feltscher 26 - Alvarez (G2) 27 - Skundrich (Draftee) 28 - Ciani 33 - Schultz (Draftee) 38 - BJIV 41 - Vom Steeg (G2) 48 - Aguilar (G2) 49 - Vera (G2) 51 - Zubak (G2) 55 - Ulysses Llanez (Academy) 57 - Dhillon (G2) 62 - Alex Mendez (Academy) 69 - Payeras (G2) 75 - Lopez (G2) 88 - Joao Pedro Players no longer in camp : 31 - Baah (trialist) 47 - Sepulveda (Academy) 63 - Arteaga (Academy) I count 36 players, Sigi announced a week ago that he'll bring around 35 players to Tucson (I'm not 100% sure Drew Skundrich is here though). Interesting note : I didn't recognize Gideon Baah on any picture, so I assume he's not here anymore.
This story indirectly confirms that Llanez is in Tuscon (and omits Sepulveda even though he is one of the two subjects of the story, suggesting he is not there). Both are probably leaving today or tomorrow because they've been called up to the USMNT U18 camp in Orlando from Feb 4-12 https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2018/...nd-leonardo-sepulveda-earn-u18-usmnt-call-ups
#LAGalaxy head coach Sigi Schmid confirmed that the Galaxy will play three different groups tomorrow v. RSL. The preseason match will feature three 30 minute periods.— Adam Serrano (@AdamSerrano) February 3, 2018
Article talking about Llanez and Sepulveda, with a big picture of Jake Arteaga at the top of the article. Good job Galaxy...
It's been a long off-season. I am ridiculously excited about watching a streamed pre-season scrimmage.
