I agree. It was a dominant performance. The Union pressed well, played high tempo and dominated possession. I still thought Fontana was poor, uninvolved, stayed on the weak side regularly and passed back far too much. At the game, I sat behind a group of Adam Najem’s family and friends. They were very into the game and cheered every play even though Najem didn’t play.
Back in 2001 when Germany were crap, England thrashed them in a WC qualifier, including a goal from notorious lunk Emile Heskey. The crowd sang '5-1! Even Heskey scored!'. We should sing at Montreal, '5-0! Even Simpson scored!'.
Starting a reserve XI (other than Blake), Union subs showing why they are benchwarmers - down 2-0 at half to the Rowdies. Trusty with a clear edge over Yaro and Marquez just based on preseason. 967546130748846082 is not a valid tweet id
I briefly saw Dockal on the bench having a chat with other players. Marquez has regressed a lot. He even looks slower. Fontana is easily 1-2 years away from contributing. He hasn’t shown much composure on the ball and hasn’t created any real link up play that I can remember. I’d officially put Epps above Herbers on the depth chart.
Ayuk was abused at LB. He wasn’t even good at his actual position previously. Can’t imagine he is in a Union game day 18.
I want what the PSP guys are taking. On here, Fontana wasn't impressive and didn't show much. One of the PSP guys was on the recent IASIP podcast and was gushing all over the player. How can it be both?
People seem to be impressed with his "high press" and "good decisions." To me, he played far more like a CM than an AM.
Definitely. Local guy, similar size, quick, reads the game well, but likely never an elite MLS player.
Anyone whose watched their preseason games have a sense for if the homegrowns will get decent playing time this year? Saw Trusty and Epps do well in the game against Montreal.
Trusty primary CB no doubt... Real probably gets decent time at LB.. Fontana and Jones probably regularly in the 18.
Trusty is the most likely to get the most minutes this season. It's looking like he's earned the starting spot. Fontana is slated to start opening day in Midfield, but will likely spend most of the season playing for Bethlehem once the Dockel signing is complete and Ilsinho is healthy. Derrick Jones will hopefully see more minutes at DM this season. Also, will be interesting to see if Matt Real can win the LB job from Fabinho.
