Definitely some conflicting reports out there about Giovinco: League source tells me that Sebastian Giovinco hasn't left camp to return to Toronto, but rather is seeing a doctor in LA regarding tightness in his leg. He's expected to return to #TFCLive camp later today. I'm told TFC hasn't received an offer for Giovinco as of yet.— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) January 28, 2019
More on the Giovinco drama: Giovinco left TFC camp on Sunday, did not take part in team dinner and did not spend Sunday night at the team hotel. According to sources, Giovinco told people he was returning to Toronto. However, according to a team spokesperson, he did not fly back to Toronto, but stayed in LA https://t.co/X8Mrhp57uc— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) January 28, 2019
I look at this as a similar move to selling Vasquez. Giovinco's getting older and has been bitten by the injury bug somewhat frequently over the past couple of years. I'd guess TFC's looking to get $$$ for him while they can... ... assuming he's actually being sold. Silly season, wot?
I dont like Jozy or his game. Never did. But I think he is speaking truth in this short article. “Is the league ready for it? Is the soccer community ready for it?” he says. “I’m not so sure, because soccer in our country is not geared toward that type of personality. Not right now. Maybe eventually. But everybody’s got to be clean-cut and be generic and boring. We’re making some advances, but we’re not there yet. “We don’t have no Jimmy Butlers in soccer,” referring to the outspoken NBA star. “They’d be blackballed, and nobody would pick them up ever again.” https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/01/28/toronto-fcs-jozy-altidore-says-mls-needs-more-villains
Anybody interested in Nani? Part of me thinks "He's linked up well with Rooney before, he'd be a good replacement for Asad..." and then part of me is like, "Money grab/negotiating tactic by his agent..."
I like him a lot, but not for DC United. We just need to keep on the path of signing more young TAM/GAM talent and not older guys who are probably washed. He'd probably do better at the Redbulls or NYCFC.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...rd-sebastian-giovinco-transferred-al-hilal-fc Giovinco gone. From $7m / season to €10m / season at 32 y.o. for the next 3.5 seasons. Call him dummy.
The Giovinco story, coupled with Vasquez and other moves makes it seem clearer why RBNY parted ways with Curtis. Originally, I thought he was the prime mover in that team's change of direction. It is now clear that it was Marsch and that Curtis was getting in the way. Looks like Toronto will slip back into the mediocrity that characterized its first seven years in the league.
Some local soccer team is gonna be visible on local TV https://washingtonspirit.com/2019/0...ts-washington-announce-broadcast-partnership/
so ... Zardes is the best US domestic forward right now? ... yech!! btw - Fox coverage sucks - just inane chatter before the game and no starting lineups
Nicky started and played most of the match for Toronto. Obviously their defense wasn't great against Las Vegas - coached by Eric Wynalda!
Does anybody know if pro/rel is already official in the new USL 1 and 2 (I am not sure how they are called exactly), or is it an intention for next seasons?
From what I've heard, the pro/rel is more of a voluntary thing. For example, Richmond chose to go to USL-2, rather than remain "up." I'm not sure any franchise holder in the U.S. would agree to be involuntarily demoted to a lesser league. Not "Murrican," know what I mean?
See, one more reason to never drink that shite-which-shall-not-be-named. Snared by a Red Bull https://mol.im/a/6675867
That thing of Richmond is not what I was talking about, I meant real pro/rel, there was this strong rumor months ago, but I don't know what final decision was ever taken.
I just finish watching Juazeirense-Vasco de Gama for the Copa do Brasil, now, we all think and agree that Neymar is a cheap @SS diver, but tonight I have seen things that you human beings could never even imagine.
If you have watched Raheem Sterling at City or Wayne Rooney back in his pomp at Man United, you have seen far worse.
