BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (May 24, 2018) – The Chicago Fire begin their 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign when they enter the storied tournament in the fourth round against Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. CT. https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...open-cup-road-against-columbus-crew-sc-june-6 The Fire are 6-0-0 all time against the Crew in the US Open Cup.
I'm calling a loss for this game and as for something stupid happening... The scoreboard catches on fire again.
I really don't like this matchup this early in the tourney. USOC is exactly the type of competition that I can see a team in a situation like Columbus' giving a shit about, enough to play a decent squad, where our bread-and-butter in this tourney recently seems to have been playing a good enough squad in the early rounds to advance against MLS b-teams before getting our heart ripped out when teams start to take it seriously in the later rounds. Ugh... plus, we kind of suck recently.... Gonna go with a nailbiter, 3-2 win for the Fire, with a side of Rubber Dick.
If Schweinsteiger, Katai, and Dax are healthy we squeak by Columbus. Otherwise they destroy us as they will badly want to win their last edition of the cup.
I am annoyed that the Fire drew the Crew so early and away. I predict this year the Fire will lose 2-0 and ruin it all. Would have rather faced Minn early with Crew vs Cinci.
This year's edition starts tomorrow against the cow-f@cking, piss-stained team that's upgrading from the worst state in the union to the 2nd worst. https://www.chicago-fire.com/post/2...r-us-open-cup-fourth-round-wednesday-Columbus Interesting note from the article: "the U.S. Open Cup's added elements of a winner-take-all scenario and roster requirements limiting teams to a maximum of five foreign players in their matchday 18 mean Wednesday could look rather different than either of their first two meetings." I had never heard that before.
Idiotic requirement. This is a club team not a national team. If they’re in the roster they should be able to play no matter where they happen to be from.
Yes that has been the case for awhile but to be honest I doubt Pauno will even play regulars in this game with NE Saturday despite this being the Cup and vs a rival.
I was going to say something about Texas having St. Vincent and Spoon, but then I remembered that The National and The Black Keys are from Ohio. So now I'm confused.
I guess that answers my question. The answer is "No, it is not on tv." Probably for the better, as I will be working at 6:00 tomorrow, I imagine. I guess I can stream it at work.
It's our country's national championship, so I get it- gives teams an excuse to take a chance on some homegrown talent, and it really isn't asking much that a team based in the US be able to field a team with just over half of the players being domestic.
I almost agree, but this country is founded on diversity that should possibly be reflected in a tournament like this. Just food for thought.
I dunno- wouldn't one of the best ways to highlight that diversity be through putting American players out there and showing what it looks like? And if those six American players somehow aren't diverse enough (I mean, soccer probably has a more diverse demographic domestic player makeup than basketball, football, hockey- right?) then the other five players should suffice.
