That was pretty much the case in the conference tournaments. Whether you use the teams' seeds or their RPI ratings, it was about 50-50 whether the so called "favorite" prevailed.
Sounds remotely like a snarky golf maxim that goes something like this. "100% of the putts that are short, don't go in the hole."
Can't believe UVA is out. Also, TX A&M let me down. Had them winning on my bracket in the prediction thread.
Baylor's got some size and, most definitely, some athleticism. UVA played its normal good possession game but didn't generate enough quality opportunities out of it in the second half, after the go-ahead Baylor goal and when the Cavs were chasing the game. Their winger on the left had the ball a lot in the last 10 minutes of the match but needed to lash a few more crosses into the box, IMO. But Baylor was hunkered down by then. Texas A&M had a good but not great team this year. They played quite a bit better today than in their first match against Tennessee, but couldn't score, and that usually spell defeat. The Vols repping their 2 seed pretty nicely--but are now up against it with the might Cardinal looming!
So, all four #1's and three of the #2's are in the elite 8. Penn State being the only unseeded team to make it.
Just got back from the game, I can't believe UCLA once again pulled a 5-0 victory. That's three 5-0 games in a row... now we can officially say UNC is next on our target!
FSU had by far the hardest 3rd round game. Not that Penn State is easy, because they are most definitely not, but UNC gets the hardest Elite 8 game.
And yet, even the mighty Cardinal had a tough go at it yesterday; only mustering one goal against the Badgers. The UNC vs UCLA match should be interesting; two offensive minded teams going at it. Who is better defensively?
A lot made of USC seed and rightly so, but UVA also had a pretty tough task. A possession/finesse team going to Texas to play 2 big physical Texas teams on a tiny field.
Is the Baylor field small? I thought it looked a little more crowded than usual, watching the game last night.
BB would not have saved that goal either...very few keepers would have saved it. I have confidence in CJ and she proved herself in PK's.
