4th place is still very much in play. In fact, the Union still have a legit shot at 3rd place, too. Win out and they are guaranteed to pass NYCFC. Along with a single dropped point by Columbus and there you are. That's a tough ask for the Union, though. A win against Minnesota seems doable, but home against NYRB is a toss up and NYCFC away on their tennis court sized field will be a tough out. NYCFC has DCU away and Union home. Columbus has Montreal and Orlando away and Minnesota home.
I think we should be rooting for us or CBus to take 3rd considering we haven't scored a goal in 3 matches this season against Columbus and facing them home or away would result in another first round exit.
With NYCFC losing (again), my projections now have Columbus & NYCFC tying for the 3rd spot with identical records. GD is the 2nd tiebreaker, though, which would give the 3rd spot to NYCFC, most likely. I still see NYCFC-DCU & CLB-PHI as the "play-in" matches. But MLS is a weird world. It seems that all the teams I had at the bottom of the East are all trending 5 points, or better, from the start of the projections several weeks ago. Who knew that Chicago & TFC would suddenly decide to play soccer?
Guys, we are absolutely putrid on the road. One win all year, and that was against Orlando back in March. We lost to Colorado. We lost to San Jose. You guys get three points. Book it.
Not even trying the reverse jinx. 1-12-2 on the road. If we had your road record, we'd be tied for 2nd in the West. You will enjoy watching Darwin Quintero, though.
Their season is very much like some of our past seasons, they are 10-4-1 at home, but 1-12-2 on the road. Definitely could be one we look past, but I think this team really wants to catch Columbus, so I think (hope) we get the 3 points easily.
WIN, playoff spot on the line should fire up the boys. Forget about the open cup debacle, get a win. MIN sucks on the road, time to take advantage.
Thanks for the optimism. We are however, Union fans, and therefore know better than to get too excited.
Montreal beat Columbus 3-0 this afternoon. Another great opportunity to move into 4th. Up 2-0 already.
Great to see us winning convincingly, but damn if Sapong is really bad. Other than the assist, he can't control the ball, or get in position to intercept a cross. His skill set is obviously below that of the rest of the team.
