That’s ok, real soccer starts back up again tomorrow... even if the Quakes will be losing like always.
Belgium slapped down Tunisia 5-2 and it could have been a lot worse if Belgium hadn't been so wasteful in front of goal. Amazing that a country of only 11.5 million can produce the quantity of quality of players that they have. Certainly their golden generation. Meanwhile, back in a country of 300 million plus............
To no surprise, World Cup TV ratings in the USA are down 44% from 2014..(I think this was according to Bloomberg News and data from Nielsen).... Your thoughts on the coverage? I find the game announcers to be fine but the "special features", the pregame and the postgame stuff is crap......seems disjointed. I'm not a fan of ESPN but there production values and delivery seemed to be much better....
Lalas doesn’t know much. Holden seems very inexperienced when calling a game. Hiddink and Seedorf are also looking at things in their Dutch way and the Mexican play by play guys are not being objective towards the opposing side. I know it’s a little tough to not have a bias but after a while it gets a little exaggerated.
They certainly pandered to the Mexico supporters by having announcers who were native spanish speakers and english their second language. Could barely understand what they were saying at times.
OMG! These Germans are either very lucky or incredibly skilled! They were seconds away from being eliminated!
I bet a case could be made for almost all the soccer powers that their bloody histories have ultimately advantaged them on the soccer pitch.
They are very skilled. I'm amazed at how they manage to get guys open looks in the box time after time against completely bunkered in defenses. Just little clever movements and pinpoint passing. But they just couldn't get the bounces until the very end there. If they wind up getting past the group stage, watch out - they could repeat. They do throw numbers forward and kind of audaciously leave themselves open to the counter (as happened in both of their games). So if the ball is not finding the net in their attack, they could have another bad game and stumble. But if they get hot and start turning all those chances into goals, watch out...
Here’s a link to the story of the ratings drop. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...world-cup-audiences-on-us-television-dow.html Can’t say I’m surprised. Almost everyone I know was talking about the Cup last time, regular soccer fan or not. I streamed at least one game in each time slot in 2014. This time around I’ve yet to see any game and only a handful of the most diehard international fans I know, generally those with some interest in one of the non-US team, have even mentioned the World Cup. There’s little excitement from what I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see what kind of debacle 2022 turns into at Christmastime.
The thing is, the casual or unknowing Fan is not watching. But for the knowledgable soccer fan, the games have been an incredible entertainment value. My son is now lamenting that he didn’t go, so many good games. and he says many people are watching on their computers at work
Most of their in-game announcers are crap, there's only one or two pairings that are worth listening to.
I'm surprised he is playing at this level. For that matter, how could Panama qualify for the WC? I predicted they will finish last and we are witnessing it. I'm surprised they even scored a goal.
