If the Argentine squad were the Quakes, this board would be ablaze with demands that Messi be traded for a bag of balls.
I was thinking about our team too when I was watching that game. Argentina did not play as a team and there was no urgency or plan when they were down. And the mistakes they made. If we add one very good player, it may not be enough to solve the systematic problem in coaching and team construction.
Messi and Aguero are obviously quality, but, I just don't think they have the players this time around. Yesterday I was talking World Cup with the owner of my local gas station, (who is from Turkey) and I told him, just watch, Croatia will beat Argentina.
Someone tweeted this very interesting spreadsheet he assembled. Maybe those supposedly clean Russian footballers are doping. 1009351251056787459 is not a valid tweet id
Yesterday there were a lot of media stories that a Moroccan player said that Geiger had asked for Ronaldo’s jersey at the Portugal game he refereed. When I googled around, there were plenty of other stories saying that Geiger had asked for Pepe’s jersey. Then I found the SoccerAmerica article that said that at half time, the Moroccan player heard Pepe say that Geiger had asked Ronaldo for Pepe’s jersey. I just think it is a terrible shame that all that adverse media attention fell on Geiger from something that was probably a joke to begin with. Sigh. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...s-mark-geiger-accused-of-asking-for-play.html
I read on ESPN that the Argentina coach liked to play 3 at the back and pressing the other them. However, Argentina just doesn’t have the players to play that style. He also doesn’t have fast enough CBs and the CBs lack of pace make them stay back, leaving a large gap in the middle. He switched from 3 at the back to 4 and then back to 3. He also has no tactical plan to adjust mid game. Sounds like the Quakes?
I didn’t see the game but saw that Brazil scored twice in injury time. They seem to be very fortunate.
Brazil was certainly fortunate to have scored those goals before the final whistle, but they did seem to dominate both possession and shots on goal throughout the game. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I saw the first 15 minutes and CR had a a shot that went just wide of the post. then I had to run. Following play by play on my phone, they seemed to hold Brazil though.
The first half was somewhat slow and plodding on both sides. Both teams' coaches must've lit into their players at halftime since the second half started off much more lively right off the bat. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
And he kneed the Iceland defender in the head with his follow through and I'm not convinced it was all together accidental.
