Yes, 3 of out of our starting back 5 + the first sub in line:

Cristian Gamboa (RB, Celtic, suspended), Óscar Duarte (CB, Espanyol, injured), Giancarlo González (CB, Palermo, injured), Francisco Calvo (CB/LB, Saprissa, injured).

We've got some experienced back up, including nailed-on starter Kendall Waston, WC2014 CBs Michael Umaña and Johnny Acosta, plus Everton's Bryan Oviedo who is a LB but can play RB. So I am not particularly troubled. We'll be light on defensive subs, though.

    Honduras 3x1 Panama

What an amazing goal for Tyson Nuñez. I was a big fan of that striker.

That Honduran generations was amazing. Probable your best, or at least the best I've seen, alongside that wasted '06 team.

Definitely the mental aspect kept you down. Talent-wise, that team was as good as any.

The Hexagonals for World Cups 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 each had four of the same teams as the previous Hexgonal. This Hexagonal has five of the same teams.

Actually, he's had some small injuries here and there since the WC, especially this season. But he has been pretty consistent in his playing time post-Brazil.

Maybe you are thinking about his GC abscense. That was not an injury, but an agreement with Machillo. He hadn't had any rest for like two straight seasons, and it was affecting his game a bit.

Oh boy... and San Jose continues to be USA's boogeyman.

Bolanos makes it 2-0 for Los Ticos.

    Oh Boy...

CR 4-0 USA.. two goals back-to-back... and now the USA are looking at a daunting task to recuperate points at home against Honduras when the Hex resumes next year.

This is the sixth Hexagonal. In chronological order from the Hexagonal for World Cup 1998 through the Hexagonal for World Cup 2014, USA has had 4, 6, 3, 4, and 3 points from their first two games. That's an average of exactly 4 points, and it's exactly 2 points per game. In those entire five Hexagonals, the USA has earned 98 points, for an average of 1.96 per game.

I'm watching Honduras vs. Trinidad and Tobago from NBC Universo on DVR. After Honduras's first goal, the screen says "HON 0 TRI 2."

    Found a hexagonal simulator.

The dynamic really changes for the US since they are at the bottom of the table and will desperately need points. Even with a win they will still be out of the top 4 until match day 4.

Honduras has historically played the US very well at home and it probably will be a close game also consider that Pinto's teams tend to be tight defensively. Honduras should have some interesting attacking players back in their ranks come March in Andy Najar and Anthony Lozano, their pace might really burn the US defense who will be without Brooks and Jermaine Jones.

I did 10 simulations from that website. One simulation had 13 of the remaining 24 games being draws, with Mexico finishing first with only 16 points.

USA has outscored Honduras 5:4 in their three Hexgonal games in the USA, with all three games decided by 1 goal. Honduras didn't reach two of the Hexagonals, and USA and Honduras have never been in the same Semifinal group. Brooks and Jones will be suspended, but Geoff Cameron could be back, and maybe Clint Dempsey's heartbeat will be better by then.

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y...costa-rica-fans-a-christmas-gift-2851709.html is titled "Ramirez: We’ve given the Costa Rica fans a Christmas gift."

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2016/m=11/news=usa-despair-panama-hold-mexico-2851203.html is titled "USA despair, Panama hold Mexico." It says:

    "Did you know?
Their second loss on the trot leaves the Americans on zero points from their first two games, having conceded six goals and scoring only one. It’s their worst start to the final round of qualifying since the preliminaries for Mexico 1986, which is – alarmingly – the last time they failed to qualify for the World Cup. Their lack of fight in the last 20 minutes in San Jose will have all US soccer fans wondering about their team’s future."

That is totally wrong. In qualifying for World Cup 1986, the USA won their first two games, but were eliminated after a draw in Costa Rica and a loss hosting Costa Rica. Only the winner of that three team group advanced to the final round of qualifying, so the USA wasn't in the final round of qualifying then.

http://www.concacaf.com/article/concacaf-hexagonal-2014-2018-comparison-by-team is titled "CONCACAF Hexagonal: 2014-2018 Comparison by Team." It mistakenly says:

"After losses to Mexico (2-1, home) and Costa Rica (4-0, away), the U.S. is already four points off the pace it established at the same stage for Brazil 2014."

USA can't be four points behind their first two Hexagonal games last cycle because they only had three points from those two games.

    http://www.fifa.com/governance/news...-for-incidents-during-fifa-world-2861299.html says:

"Honduras has been sanctioned with a ban on playing at the Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula for one match and fined CHF 40,000 for several incidents during the Honduras v. Panama match. The suspension will be served at Honduras’ 2018 FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Costa Rica."

Every Hexagonal team except for Trinidad and Tobago was disciplined for at least one of the first two Hexagonal games. Over all rounds of qualifying for World Cup 2018, Mexico and Honduras are among the three most disciplined countries measured by number of offenses, not the severity of each one. Chile has the most offenses with 11, while Mexico and Honduras are tied for the second most with 7 each, and Mexico has one offense with a "decision pending" that could get them up to 8.

The next set of matches are going to be difficult to predict. I think Honduras is desperate for a win after getting smacked down last night. But Costa Rica does not want to lose back-to-back either.

Mexico SHOULD take care of business against T&T, however they have given them fits the last couple of matches. They match up with them well physically and it could be another high scoring battle.

USA has so much confidence and momentum but Panama can win this game too. A tossup in my book.

This cycle under Klinsmann for the US will feel like the 2010 Sven-Goran Erikson cycle for Mexico. They started the hex poorly, fired Erikson, got themselves back on track, and qualified comfortably.

There's too much talent on that US squad for them to look as terrible as they did against CR (not taking anything away from the Ticos, who also played well).

Its now Honduras that's really under pressure to get the win against Costa Rica in San Pedro Sula.
