What's with these dorky ass Korean managers wasting roster spots on injured/semi retired players? Call up LMJ or even LCY
i guess, cause Ki is the captain and they tried everything they could to make him in the squad. LCY will face fierce competition for a place in the starting 11, if he gets some playing time, if not...the he won't even be in the squad for the WC.
And LCY is semi-retired and permanently injured after that incident. If he were called a lot of people would have criticized STY. It is easier to count who are healthy among regulars. KJC - but even he is coming out of a serious injury KSG KYG - first appearance after a very very very very serious injury I cannot think of anyone else. Unbelievable. Among almost regulars KSW - healthy but not in good form 김기희 - healthy but not talented KJS - many don't like him CHS - almost a regular. probably talented but cannot find a right position. Talented but have not seen NT action for a while KCH LJS Occasionally good players NTH KBK LKH
Iranian squad out and Saman Ghoddos is not included so either he didn't impress CQ or he is being kept on ice for the Syria game. Not sure if Korean members really cared, but I think the Korean coach will be happy as he would have been a complete wild card
I will probably get a red card for this post (as I got a warning simply because I said Iran were overrated and this counted as inciting a flame war. Tex did such a magnificent job in selecting the mods who will bend to his will) The following link expresses my view most closely. http://sports.news.naver.com/kfootball/news/read.nhn?oid=516&aid=0000000095 The Iranian claim of physical superiority is most likely just an urban myth. People just have to say it to seem knowledgeable about Iran because Iranians so passionately want to hear it. The article points to the fact Koreans are superior in raw athletic ability and height. However Iranian success is not all due to luck. In addition to the great teamwork built by CQ, they have great individual ball handling skills, probably the best in Asia, probably why they do well in footsal while Koreans are poor. But their most important assets are dirty plays, or euphemistically called football savvy. Koreans suck at this, once to the great dismay of Hiddink. Hiddink actually spent a lot of time teaching Koreans how to pull shirts, use hands to get a better position etc. etc. At one point he exasperatedly called Korean players too naive. Among dirty plays, most West Asians excel in knowing how rough they can get without being carded. Iranians are supreme in this in addition to time wasting. And they claim this is due to their being physically stronger. That is a lie. Korea's odds are stacked and I can only hope for a miracle. No longer a soccer game can be won through hard work and sportsmanship. Koreans are too naive and will not get good calls because they have too many enemies both in AFC and FIFA.
He has got playing times with his club right after STY announced his list, that's a pity. Otherwise he may have been called.
Lol, you never miss an opportunity of being enthusiastic about him "His smiling skills are really good, he is so photogenic, isn't it ? And red color suits him more than every other korean player, if doesn't start and explode after that, I'll really wonder what happens" (just kidding Marco)
I just don't like him wearing a different number than his 22. KCH is #22 for life. Seeing him with number 10, 11 or even worse 16...it's so weird.
The article I linked to pointed out that Iranian centerbacks are relatively short without much leaping abilities. Their defense is solid due to organization and football-savvy, not raw physical abilities. So if Korea are behind in the 2nd half, STY may try to out-muscle Iran inside the box. If successful Iranians will get really upset because they see Koreans as short and sissy even if facts point otherwise. However I too don't see it succeeding for different reasons. Koreans are poor in locating the point of air-ball landing. I think this is due to meta-cultural situation because Korean kids grow up in cramped urban neighborhoods. When I grew up in the US I played a lot of baseball and I and many Korean kids(1.5 gen Koreans) had trouble catching high balls. Other kids were laughing at us. LDG in particular is no good at it. He would jump as soon as a cross is launched and by the time the ball gets to him he is almost to the ground in a downward arc. He gets beaten by guys far shorter with less leaping abilities.
Both main Iranian CBs (even some backups) are known to be good in the air. Both are 184 cm, backups are 187 and 191. Not sure where Korean medias get their info
If Korea get behind in the 2nd H or remain tied by the 75th min mark there is nearly a 100 percent chance he will come on. So I hope I don't see him today.
I heard the same thing about black guys. They can't swim or play golf, tennis, lacrosse, and curling because they grew up in cramped urban areas.
