I watched a couple of videos. Not completely sure but I think there are six people in there: -1 Assistant VAR who watches the live feed of the match to identify incidents to check. -4 video techs who then pull up the most useful angles on those incidents to pass onto the main VAR. -The VAR, who then reviews the footage sent to him and decides whether/when to communicate with the referee.
https://football-technology.fifa.com/en/innovations/var-at-the-world-cup/ For FIFA this is actually quite good, detailing the responsbilities of the different VAR officials.
Right yeah, that's one of the things I read I but missed the bit where they mentioned three assistants at the World Cup. So it's eight people involved: one VAR, three assistant VARs, and four video operators. Seems that it's two people (VAR and AVAR3) evaluating situations like the Griezmann penalty though.
Yeah, and it reads as if there is intended to be two way communication between the VAR lead and the on pitch referee rather than just "look at this". Transcripts of the discussions around any reviews would be both interesting and beneficial to the public.
He didn’t play for the foul though. That is most likely partly reasoning to why it was not given. The player was saying to his manager after the game that he should have gone down to get the foul. All the attacking player needs to do is put the defender off balance to make him unable to compete for the ball. The two referees I’ve seen comment about this issue agree that the goal shouldn’t have been given but pundits seem to be 50/50.
You can tell they've underestimated Panama. One thing about the World Cup is you can never do that to anyone no matter what the difference in quality is. To be fair Panama is doing well for themselves. Hardly any errors and are resolute.
This all comes back to the old point of some people wanting football to be a non-contact sport. That thinking would be disastrous.
Panama are cack...its belgiums mentality...martinez is ruining this group of players...england should deal with panama better as we play a higher tempo

He's good for stats. Here's one - Japan have now overtaken Scotland for wins at World Cups— Duncan Alexander (@oilysailor) June 19, 2018
I still wouldn't rule out Colombia. Not gonna be too harsh on a side that went down to 10 men and then dominated for 50 minutes before tiring.
That group is wide open. There's no clear favourite, and Japan or Senegal could easily lose their next two games.
Egypt never had much of a chance with Salah half-fit did they? They were so negative against Uruguay and Russia. It should also be noted that Russia has been the most clinical side so far. Despite who they've played, they've put away most of their chances.
This is my favourite moment of the World Cup so far; Japan fans picking up litter after their victory vs Columbia. The lessons in life we can take from the game. Why I support 🇯🇵 #class✅#respect✅#WorldCup pic.twitter.com/FyYLhAGDbi— Christopher McKaig (@Coachmckaig) June 19, 2018
