Their main goal was probably to give chance to the likes of Uzbekistan, UAE, China, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, etc. because with the likes of Australia, Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Saudi Arabia, there is no room left for other teams.

ah I see your point. I could understand the appeal of having China in the world cup. Especially with the Chinese public turning to the game in droves. Btw, you are one of the nicest Iranians here. Good luck to your team in the world cup. You had a magnificent campaign.

Well thought through - I like it a lot.
Well, i dont like that AFC has 8.25 or 8.5 slots, but not much i can do about that Infantile decision.

why are you going through a 60 page thread and digging up posts from a year ago? i dont know why you even posted that quote by me from a year ago when what i said was correct. the first half came true, now lets see if the 2nd half comes true (saudi losing by many goals). i think it will.

you are either autistic or 13.

probably the only thing i agree on with you. but i find it strange why you would say this when this is the first time saudi qualified in over 10 years. with the new format you can finally qualify more frequently like the big asian teams. so be careful what you wish for.

i think miroslav klose will coach saudi arabia for free if he gets into coaching. i mean they singlehandedly gave him the top world cup scorer of all time record.

I'd love to see a hatful of dirty animals. I wonder how many you could fit in there. I guess it depends on the size of the hat and the size of the animals.

I hate the idea of 46 nations tournament..Completely hate it..I hope some miracles happen and we get back to 32 teams..This will eventually more feed towards people liking club football more than the national team football as you know your team is surely gonna make it then why up ur pressure by supporting them..

Every coach is KSA earns $$$ , I believe we still need to pay Rijkaard for breaking the contract..And I suppose all teams pay enough to get the team to WC. Now stop talking and dreaming about the penalties and start playing football
Complaining will not give you anything but more misery..
No one denies we sucked for a years together and now we are starting getting back so let it be..

Australia lost 4-0 against Germany in 2010 FIFA World Cup, who talks about it?...
Australia lost 3-0 against Spain in 2014 FIFA World Cup, who mentions that?...

Forget Australia, Brazil lost 7-1 against Germany in FIFA World Cup 2014, no one even weep about that anymore so Why KSA v Germany result is so much dramatized ?...

For the record, South Korea also lost 5-0 against Holland(Netherlands) in France 98 but they came up better from next world cup onwards...

and also for the record, the worst losing team in the world cup is not Saudi Arabia, it's another team that lost by some 13 goals margin so I guess Saudi have to be forgiven for one ill match.

3-0 or 4-0 gets pale in front of 8-0 result. When Brazil lost to Germany 7-1, the whole country was on fire and their coach got fired immediately. All national team members apologized on tv and so on.The thing is they had created so many good memories that people forget about the one time miserable defeat eventually. South Korea lost 5-0 to Holland but they went up to semifinal in 2002 and made up for that result.

How about Saudi Arabia? So far I don't see any significant achievement to cover for the mess. The result you mentioned about a team which received 13 goals or something should be about 70 years ago, most people who remembered that must be old or dead by now. Majority of active football fans are in their 20s, 30s or early 40s, so you do the math.

This is how I feel people look at that 8-0 match. I think with current condition no Asian team in world cup should receive more than 3 or 4 goals. Otherwise, they will be an embarrassment for Asia just like North Korea in 2010.

Their best performance was indeed during WC 1994 advancing to R16. While it is good for Asian standard to reach to that level but their 2002 losses and their misfortune ever since doesn't make the case any better. North Korea lost to Portugal 7-0 in WC 2010 and no body gives a damn because they were irrelevant in football. Saudis losing to Germany by 8 goals was nothing we expected from a top Asian team back then. That is the difference. Same goes to Brazil loss.

Even during 1994 WC qualification back in 93 major teams like Iran, Iraq and Kuwait were still suffering from post Persian gulf war problems which paved the way for Saudis. Still Iraq almost qualified and stopped Japan in last moment from qualifying. A poor managed Iranian squad who won Asian games in 1990 and surprised everyone on AC 96 lost to KSA 4-3.

Long story short even during the best years of Saudi football in early 90s, the vacuum created by Iran-Iraq and Persian gulf war which engulfed three of best rivals in west Asia (Iran, Iraq, Kuwait) in financial and social difficulties, helped Saudis to take the momentum and qualify. Saudi team had a good run against Belgium and a nice goal vs Sweden if I am not mistaking. It is football and one team qualifies at expense of another team. A nation goes to civil war or through financial difficulty and lose quality and another nation masters the game. It is all ups and downs and excitement.

I hope now that Saudis have qualified for WC 2018, at least they try to represent Asia well and come back strong among Asian top teams. Asia needs more than 4 teams to make the competition more exciting for us all.
