Half? Swore? You are exaggerating so much. I read all interviews after that game. Ghoochannejhad did not say anything after the match and he is known for his kindness. Only Hosseini and Taremi said hopefully the team will play a better match against Syria in the second leg to make up for the first leg game which was impossible to play good football due totally muddy field. I did not like that game against Syria in Malaysia either but at least Syria snatched points from our other rivals in the group too. Also remember that Syria was our guest for ACQs 2015. They played their home games of ACQs 2015 in Iran and hopefully they will chose Iran for their homes games in the future again.

I don't have time to look it over now.

Regardless, with Syria's grassrolling and the field in conjunction with it being our last competitive game before the World Cup.... they are going for the win against Syria.

Many of the players after the game said Syria is in for it when they come to Azadi. They even made Instagram posts about it. Vast majority of Iranian people don't care about the Arab countries that the government supports, so no reason the players wouldn't go for a win.

Well, Syrian football its decent in general and passionate fan culture.
Syria were one of the few founder members of the Asian football confederation to join FIFA that entered early of the World Cups qualifiers.
Their domestic league during the 1990s & 2000s have the best average fan attendance of any Arab Asian league.
Clubs such as Al Jaish, Al Ittihad and Al Karama are a top-heavy league teams, the meeting between these clubs normally quite a full-house with 30-40.000 fans.
And they produce fantastic individual players from time to time. Lately e.g. the two Omar Kharbin & Al Soma, the latter is one of the finest strikers in the Asian football today.

Syria were pretty strong and certainly one of the top teams around Asia at the beginning.
For example, in the early seventies, Kuwait was far superior to any gulf team, playing good football and winning by large margins something like 4-0, 6-0, 8-0. However, at that time Syria beats Kuwait whenever they meet and they were up to the challenging enough for the strong ones such as North Korea and Iran in 1971 and 1973 respectively.
From 80s onwards, they were moving to a second tier, start to qualify more regularly for the Asian Cups, and sometimes failed to qualify for the final phase or a major tournaments it is either gets knocked out in a group containing a top 2nd tier team or a major team (mostly Syria was drawn in the same group with Iran which over the every-time lost by a narrow margin or ended up with a draw).
Syria are a class below the best in Asia and you dont expect them to make it very far but generally their matches are always closely fought.
Here some memorable fixtures that Syria faced against heavyweight sides
In a World Cup qualifier against Iran in Tehran 1973 (arguably the best generation Iran ever had featuring Parvin, Jabbari, Ashtiani, Mazloumi, Ghelichkhani, Hejazi.. etc)
In a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah 1989 (classic match against the most talented squad ever assembled in the history of the Saudi football which has loads of great individuals in every position the likes of Majed, Al Thunayan, Al Harifi, Al Jam'an, Nu'eimeh, Abd Al Jawad, Jamil, Al Musaibeah..)
In the Asian Cup against Japan in Doha 2011 (another marvellous game against a great Japanese side with players like Honda, Kagawa, Endo, Hasebe, Okazaki, Matsui, Nagatomo, Kawashima..as they eventual winners & qualified for the knockout stage of the World Cup)

Teams such as Malaysia and Burma that used to be good has gone massively downhill through the years, while Syria kept basically at the same level, also maybe nobody expects much from them due to their difficult circumstances but they weren't a pushover.

I doubt it. As someone said before on this thread, the Eredivisie isn't seen as the ideal launching pad for a career in the top leagues anymore. The defense players are like ghosts there, any average attacker can score lots of goals and give assists easily. I remember Japan striker Mike Havenaar, who has never played for his homeland since 2014, scored 17 goals in the Eredivisie last season.

    Match-day 8

    Iran vs Uzbekistan

First of all welcome to Iran Uzbekistan national team. There is one interesting fact. There is only one national team in Asia that has never lost in Iran and that national team is Uzbekistan. Our team knows that and that is one of the reasons this time we had a longer camp than usual. A win qualifies Iran to the WC 2018. Even a draw keeps us in a good position to qualify. We should not think about the exact result at the moment. The focus at the moment should be that we should try to have the best possible performance to maximize our chance for the best possible result.

    Qatar vs Korea

Anything less than victory puts more pressure on South Korea. The performance of Qatar have been much better than what the results indicate. Qatar is not a bad team at all. They are a good team and gave extremely tough tests to the opponents in their last 7 games. As a result Korea should not underestimate them at all.

    Syria vs China

China improved under the management of Marcello Lippi. Syria needs to win in order to have any chance at least for third place.

Just a quick fact sheet regarding tomorrow's match:

*We will be the 2nd team that qualifies to the World Cup after Brazil,
*We will have our first clean sheet ever qualification to the World Cup,
*We will have our first consecutive qualification to the World Cup.

All that if Iran wins of course. Our future looks very promising with all these records set.

Looks like only 50K tickets will be sold for security reasons to control identity of spectators, after the Tehran terrorist attacks

Congratulations... Now you can dictate the group very easily i.e., you remaining games result can decide who finishes 2nd and 3rd in the group.

Congrats Iran! It's now going to be very tough for Uzbekistan with this loss. Even though they host South Korea in their final game, their fate is notlonger in their own hands. Should South Korea win tomorrow in Doha, the Koreans will go 4 points up, and they'll clinch qualification with a home win against Iran in August, who won't have any pressure to win given they've already qualified. Should Syria beat China tomorrow, even 3rd is not guaranteed for the Uzbeks...
