From the email: COLUMBUS - Major League Soccer today announced that Columbus Crew SC will begin the 2018 season on the road, facing 2017 MLS Cup Champion Toronto FC at 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday March 3 at BMO Field. Following a re-match of the 2017 Eastern Conference Championship to open 2018, Crew SC returns home to host the Montreal Impact on Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m. ET for its home opener as MAPFRE Stadium welcomes supporters for its 20th season and the Black & Gold's 23rd overall campaign in MLS. A complete 2018 MLS schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. 2018 local broadcast information for Crew SC will also be announced at a later date.
Expect a fair amount of early season home games (given the new stadia in LA and DC being not quite done).
I'm surprised LA didn't work out a deal for StubHub or whatever it's called now. Then again, they probably want a grand home opening, so you really can't blame them.
Saw that some games location was TBD (DC vs Houston on the 17th). I might have had a heart attack if the venue for our home opener was TBD
That's because Audi Stadium will not be complete yet and RFK is unlikely to be usable. DC is still thinking about where to host those games until Audi Stadium opens--they'd asked for road games until that happens in the summer--league said no.
It was always supposed to be Columbus. (Are people really thinking that the 2018 season was in flux? It sure seems that way.)
Other than the whole "not-quite-last-game" angle, did I miss something? https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/10/20/whats-next-rfk-rundown-plans-dc-uniteds-longtime-home
I'm curious how many season ticket holders canceled when the window was reopened. I can't imagine Precourt will have much in the way of local sponsorships for 2018 and expect attendance to be down a good bit.
The fanbase is hosed either way: Money feeds into the snake. No money means low attendance means fuel for his fire. If any sponsorships are up, there's not much from raising fees to exorbitant prices and then claiming "lack of sponsorship."
Should make it easier to get down, and with the whole family, eh? At that time, I have a better chance of getting Mrs. KG to make it out (she has cold-induced asthma, so early games are always a challenge--and no she would not have skipped the final had we made it).
Barring anything major, we will be at Crewsmas. Heck we already have the tickets for the season so we will be trying to get to as many games as we can next year.
Not completely. They had a number of games at Bobby Dodd Stadium (Georgia Tech) before Mercedes Benz opened.
I'm honestly surprised so many of you are wanting to go. Is it because it might be the last Crewsmas? Or something else?
