What a horrible first half. Their goalie is literally butterfingers and we can't even get a shot in the back of the net.
Pretty poor effort overall coupled with a little bad luck. Too many scrubs on the field to beat an athletic bunker. Amaya and Fontana are half worthless and all of the college players are slow of thought. Corner kicks have been atrocious and I don't like that Tab hasn't made a single adjustment after picking a poor squad to deal with SV&G's likely style of play. Ref hasn't called the game evenly and his unwillingness to show cards is hurting the US. I expect the second half subs to add something if they a) get on the field early enough, and b) SV&G doesn't sneak a lucky goal.
30 seconds into the second half the US scores Rennicks with a nice shoulder pass that is deflected to Torres who finishes from outside the box.
Immediately that was more attacking impetus. Diagonal ball, chest back into the path, forcing a scramble, and nice finish by JPT. Rennicks is better at setting up teammates than finish off setups himself. But he didn't have anybody to set up in the first half. I've heard he can score goals from college and somewhat youth internationals, but haven't seen it personally. Not precise when swinging his leg thru a ball. Maybe more of a mf than fw?
You are up 1-0 against an Island with 100,000 people over halfway through. These players should not be celebrating. Collect the ball, get it back to the center circle, and get the game started again. After that half, there should be no celebrations in this game for our team.
I already mentioned the scoreline. I think it shows a real minnow mentality to be doing elaborate pre-planned celebrations when you are clearly under-performing. Winning games is important, but this scoreline can not be viewed as a good thing. Winning has to be mandatory in these games, and a positive evaluation revolves around dominating (in play and scoreboard) these teams.
I get it. I just disagree with you. It's not minnow mentality to celebrate goals when it's a close game.
Rennicks looks like the best player on the field out there. TBF I've only watched 2nd half, does that match with what everyone else is seeing?
What game are you watching? It's not this one, because St Vincent has barely touched the ball, let alone strung 2 passes together.
Llanez. Rennicks works hard, holds the ball up well and combines well with teammates, but he has almost no goalscoring instincts.
What? "The run of play" means the flow of the game. If one team is dominating on the ball and creating chances, then the other team scores (e.g off of a defensive error), that is colloquially called a goal "against the run of play".
As we just saw again. To be fair, in this game, there are precious few people who can do that holdup play and combination play. Mostly it's just a row of attackers standing around.
Angking leaves a pass for Fontana whose shot from outside the box takes a small-ish deflection and fines the back of the net. 3-0 US 66th minute Akinola on for Angking in the 67th minute Looks like Rennicks went out wide right and Akinola is playing as the number 9.
