I've asked two or three times already, so I'm guessing nobody knows the answer to this question: Is this Mexico's full U20 squad?
Actually in CONCACAF it's the only time you get punished for hacking. In other leagues you have a solid argument.
The last 20 minutes is all I saw and it's dangerous to base an opinion on such a small amount but Lainez is the only guy that was really good for them and he may have trouble with big physical defenders unless his skill come close to Messi's as he matures. At the moment he doesn't have the super quick first step that Pulisic has but he is good at making people miss at times. Hope I don't have to eat my words if US makes the final.
Neither team hacked. It was 1 YC vs. 2 YC. And it wouldn't be a problem if CA teams just got carded like normal. Teams like Honduras would quickly rack up yellows and reds, and that would mean they'd lose more.
Maybe in this game but if US / Costa Rica was the second game and was tied on points they'd certainly deserve to be tossed for their nasty play.
I think all told they were about even with Panama. This is a really good Panama team. Better than Costa Rica, I think. But a typical Mexico team should be better than this.
They have Lainez so it's pretty close to the full. Jonathan Gonzalez is missing. I can't really find any other standout missing. In comparison, we have Tyler Adams, Amon, Sargent, Durkin and Carleton missing. If we lose by a goal and generally look even with them I would say that we won the development battle of this cycle.
Just read on Wikipedia that after Cuba was eliminated 12 players opted to stay in the US, that is wild. Here’s an article too. https://www.cibercuba.com/noticias/...stas-equipo-cuba-sub-20-quedan-estados-unidos
This happens much more often than not when Cuba plays in the US in the Gold Cup or in CONCACAF youth tournaments.
I remember it being a big factor in the Gold Cup, where they didn’t have subs. But 12 seems unprecedented.
I'll probably be seeing a few of them on the local fields practicing for a try-out. Osvaldo Alonso defected in 2007 and eventually played himself into a DP contract. So, the sky's the limit.
