I can agree that SHJ >= HEJ, but Ji? LOL. That's like saying JSR > JHW just because he has more exp in the NT.
what injuries in the wings? im not even saying he is being played as wingback. if anything, i've seen Son play centrally.. from deeper position often. or are you arguing because the FBs or WBs (when Korea played w/ 3 at the back) forced Son to play as "wingback" as cover for inexperienced FBs higher up the pitch?
I love how people always say stuff like " he has scored 8 goals in 5 games but he is not that impressive really" , when other players struggle with getting a fkcing attempt on goal. If its that easy then we would have 15 players with 8 goals or more. Piss logic.
I understand the need to throw water on this HUJ orgy, considering its a U23 tourney against a bunch of sorry AFC sides, but hey -- 8 goals is 8 goals. He has at the very least proven that he has good movement and a good sense of finding open space so that his teammates can feed him for good opportunities. I don't think anyone here thinks he's suddenly going to transfer all of this amazingness to the Senior NT level but it is a little mean and unnecessary to shit on all the excitement when someone is single-handedly driving the bus to military exemption and a potential gold medal. We have so few happy moments on this board, at least wait until he has a bad game (or a really bad miss) to shit on him.
Takeuchi just mad that HEJ is doing work. Ji has been some shit past couple of years now, and sure he scored that crucial goal against Great Britain in the olympics back in 2012 but are you serious right now? This man has done nothing for the NT recently. Without HEJ we aren't even playing anymore in this tourney right now lol
Whoever scores, it's good. As long as it's not own goals. There's also the matter of striker confidence.
Props to him for his goals at the Asian games. My argument is the case against him for senior NT based on Asian games. It isn't a good tournament to state or judge he proved his worth for another chance w/ senior NT (not that it matters since he got called up already). Just believe some of you are way too quick .. or judge purely based on short "tournaments" without looking at his overall body of work. btw, he had his "bad" game too. pulled at HT vs Kyr.... Also, tbf.. and purely my opinion. Hwang EJ hasn't done anything for NT unless Korea wins gold at the Asian games. As for nothing on Ji DW argument, he has scored a crucial goal against Qatar in WCQ & 2 assist vs China
How the fk would a player do well every single match? There's no Messi/Ronaldo in Asia, bro. This guy thinks "crucial goals" make Ji better than HUJ. Why dont you say "crucial saves" made by JSR makes him better than JHW?
I need some videos of the post match incidents where some uzbek players get a red card for throwing water bottles at the refs
fellas fellas, calm down. Both Hwang and Ji suck equally. Ji can't score, and Hwang is an overrated finisher who doesn't offer much elsewhere besides scoring.
HEJ just scored three quality goals and earned a penalty through sheer force of will against an extremely physical side. He showed movement, power and finesse in playing the no. 9 the way we want a no. 9 to play the position. This wasn't like scoring for fun against Burma in the third round WCQs. These Uzis were built and will likely be the opponents that we face in fourth round WCQs in the next cycle. Stop discounting what HEJ has been doing. If not for him, where would the goals have come from right now? HHC? If so, it would have been a repeat of Rio. If he keeps scoring and wins the gold medal, he deserves to jump ahead of others in the KNT no. 9 role.
As an aside, I know that the Uzis were much better in quality than the Iranians. And that Cho HW was in goal in the previous match. But... Kim Minjae was terrible today in marshaling the back line. Hwang HS was completely unsure of himself and too deferential to Kim Minjae. Lee Seung Mo was a complete lost cause. it's sad to know that he took Hwang Ki Wook's spot to piss himself all over the pitch like he did today. What's the point of having height and a decent frame when you get pushed off a header inside the box to concede the goal or pushed off possession in midfield to concede another goal??? Lee Seung Mo is simply too much of a liability to play in the next two matches.
I knew that Jang Yun Ho was important, but I didn't know he was that important until today. It was a stupid decision by KHB to start HHS over CYM anyway.
Last observation... I can count only a handful of 황씨 acquaintances/friends in my life. How were there four on the pitch at the same time today (with three of them on the score sheet)? If Hwang Ki-Wook had been playing, there would have been five. Imagine if Hwang Sun Hong had been the manager of this side? Foreigners would think 황씨 is the new 김씨...
I mean Hwang isn't a Lee/Kim/Park, but there are close to 700,000 according to Wikipedia (2015 census): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Korean_surnames
LOL @Hodori's Hwang comments Extended highlights A few quick observations from that clip: 1. Uzbekistan was not an easy opponent and more often than not, they looked the better side. 2. Our goalie handed them 2 easy goals on a platter. Sigh. 3. I dunno how good Hwang EJ will be if he had to play at a higher level but he is the man of the tournament, hands down. 4. Son is not as heavily marked as I thought and he seems a bit out of form. I expected him to do what Hwang is doing.
That was both terrible and fun to watch... 1. KMJ was a bit soft today. He made several mistakes including at least 2 goal leading gaffs. He's probably not 100%. 2. SHM is orchestrating and leading attack in support rather than being used in his best role attacking with speed from flank. Similar problem to WC. When the team is playing badly he falls back and into supportive role. This is not good but there is zero chance that we can fix this. 3. WHY is LSW not starting every single goddam game? It makes no sense. 4. HEJ has been carrying this team but let's not go overboard. He was dominating K-League but he was ineffective at NT level. He's dominating again again at below K-League level in this tournament. I hope he rises to the challenge but he still has to prove himself on NT. 5. Vietnam is playing well although they've been running ragged and looked pretty banged up against Syria. They're organized and disciplined in defense and they are extremely adept and quick counterattacks able to string together key passes and off the ball movements to find shots on goal. They use their smaller size to their advantage and are quick as hell on these counters. With our numerous defensive blunders and errant passing problems in midfield, the Vietnamese are just licking their chops at the prospect of running at us while our players are caught facing the wrong goal.
this debate is meaningless. if we're talking about who's going to make an impact for us in 2022, the answer is neither. let's just enjoy what HUJ is doing for us now, and repent for how mean we were to him when he saw the initial selection.
