Finally remembered to follow up on Atlanta Falcons reducing their Concession prices by 50%... Yep you guessed it, they exceeded the previous year's sales total by 16%. Other NFL Teams have taken notice and at least Baltimore following suite. Here is full story on ESPN http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...-more-money-mercedes-benz-stadium-concessions To coincide with opening Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the AMB Group announced their "Fan First Menu Pricing." Unlimited Coca-Cola would cost $2, so too would a bottle of water, popcorn, a hot dog and a pretzel. For $3 each, fans could get waffle fries, a slice of pizza, or nachos with cheese. Those prices included tax. No change would help serve to speed the ease of transactions.
Switchbacks host FC Denver in the US Open Cup this Wednesday. I've seen elsewhere that tickets are $5 with $1 beer for the first 30 minutes. Also interesting is that this will be part of ex-Foxes/Rapids player Wolde Harris' coaching qualifications: "Switchbacks Assistant Coach Wolde Harris watched FC Denver’s first round victory against Azteca FC, and will see his duties extend even further this week. “It’s Wolde’s game – he’s the man,” said Trittschuh. “It’s a part of taking my Pro License and it’s for Wolde’s development as a coach. Wolde will prepare the team and get them ready for Wednesday and it’s all him for this game and that’s great for him and for everybody.” https://www.switchbacksfc.com/news_article/show/917886?referrer_id=2954845
On another topic, I've never been able to figure out why soccer teams don't pull their goalies as an added attacker in the last three minutes of games? Or at least put them at midfield so an additional defender can move up. Yes, I know an opponent might blast a kick and score; it happens all the time in hockey. But if a team has a corner or free kick in extra time (maybe even a long throw in), why not take a chance and try to score? The Rapids never do this. I have seen it a few times on final plays of games, but it's very rare at all levels. Goal differential concerns? I'd take an extra point in a season over goal differentials anytime.
I have only ever seen it done in Soccer in a "Finals" game, GD is usually first tie breaker in single sheet leagues so most likely why you don't see it in regular season games.
I'm surprised teams don't do it more often too. If not pull the goalie (I always think of child creation when I say that - "We weren't trying yet, but we had pulled the goalie") I don't know why teams don't move goalies up on free kicks and such earlier.
SWITCHBACKS ADVANCE TO THIRD ROUND OF US OPEN CUP WITH WIN OVER FC DENVER https://www.switchbacksfc.com/news_article/show/918855?referrer_id=2954845 Switchbacks win 3-2
Wow, Just a crazy story about what happened to Sporting CP http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...om&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
The Rapids players are safe from me, I'm passionate about the Rapids, but have never had the urge to attack them. I l have laughed at them. Now Rapidman... I'd love to Rugby tackle him. Could they do that for halftime entertainment?
Pending announcement for SC WKRP: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/05/24/fc-cincinnati-plans-major-announcement.html Please let the mascot be late 70's Loni Anderson!
What is the "right" number of teams for MLS? 23 now, 2 announced, most likely a 3rd announced - so up to 26. More?
No clue on final number, but at least 30. Spain (47M)- 20 Clubs in top league Italy (61M)- 21 Clubs UK (64M)- 20 Clubs France (65M)- 20 Clubs Germany (83M)- 18 Clubs North American Pro Leagues (includes Canadian teams): USA 326M, Canada 36M MLB 30 NBA 30 NHL 31 NFL 32
Great analysis but it only goes so far; Uruguay +/- 3M people, will be in Russia w/ a star above their badge no less. Those top 5 European countries probably have 80%+ of their populations as pretty avid fans -- do we have 8%? They also have as competition: MLB 0 NBA 0 NHL 0 NFL 0 (do realize hockey and basketball have significant presence in some Euro counties)
I believe the more applicable comparison is with other North American leagues since Garber and the other owners probably look through that lens: NFL 32 teams NBA 30 teams MLB 30 teams NHL 31 teams My guess: 30-32 teams
I expect 36-38. Outside the NHL none of the other leagues have more than a Toronto team in Canada, so right there that gives MLS an additional 2 teams. Also we're seeing that you don't need quite as big a population base to survive in MLS so places that have 0-2 teams in other sports are getting teams (Salt Lake, Columbus/Austin, etc.). In the end it will come down to if adding a team increases revenue more than the revenue lost by splitting the pool by an additional team. I think that breaking point will be a bit higher for MLS than the rest of the leagues, but not too much higher.
If franchise fees are $100M (and going up?) there may be a temptation to add too many teams for long term sustainability just for the short term one-time cash infusions.
Words fail. This is what makes soccer the greatest sport. Champions League Goal (Move your mouse to reveal the content) Champions League Goal (open) Champions League Goal (close)
I noticed both 'novice' coaches in that match used a 'quaint' formation with 4 in the back -- but then neither of them have National Team coaching experience from the scrappy Oceania Football Confederation.
I like the choice of Earnie Stewart as TD of USMNT, bet the us men forum will go ballastic if he brings in a Euro coach.
I like the choice too, but all I've seen so far is salt from the US Soccer Reddit community. People seem to think his tenure at Philadelphia Union should disqualify him. I think that being the US Soccer GM is a pretty different job. We will see!
