It is now impossible NOT to admire how Atlanta is running their club. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...mplete-record-breaking-ezequiel-barco-signing
Anyone else missing Drew? All you current @MLS players wishing the draft picks good luck 🙄. How about this, “You punks ain’t gettin’ my spot!!” Signed: A very grumpy old man 👴🏼— Drew Moor (@drewmoor) January 21, 2018
fully expect Miami Vice coming on Monday: http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/soccer/20180124_ap_86035719e7ec4419a110e6697b13984c.html
I'm kind of pulling for "Miami Lice." Then the Minnesota fans could troll both Florida teams with one chant: "ice and rice are twice as nice as mice and lice."
Maybe we got lucky missing out on Cubo Torres. Just in case you went to bed early last night...Erick Torres has been sold to Pumas. https://t.co/eDsyHAQu6E— Corey Roepken (@RipSports) January 25, 2018
The US roster for this camp cupcake game looked really uninspiring, and now watching the 2nd half, boy is it ever.
Interesting Fact Here’s a crazy silly season stat for ya... @ATLUTD have spent more on signings this January than the entire Serie A 🇮🇹😬 #TransferDeadlineDay fun coming up on #TheXTRA at 7ET ⚽️✌🏼 #ATLUTD— Kevin Egan (@kev_egan) January 31, 2018
new National training center... Sporting Kansas City coach Peter Vermes directed a group of 35 people down a passageway Monday, serving as the unofficial tour guide for a $75 million structure. On his left, he pointed toward a cryotherapy room, designed to accelerate muscle recovery. On his right, there was a hypobaric chamber, a room with adjustable altitude. After a step backward, he explained the benefits of another space with motion analysis. And on it went. U.S.Soccer recognizing that major changes need to be made after failing to qualify for the World Cup Finals (symptom not the disease) has made major changes by electing the former Vice President to the top spot. It took 3 rounds of voting for him to end up with 68.6% of the votes but was probably as predictable as the Rapids not having their roster sorted out by opening day.
And given the candidates running, it was the right choice. Martino for VP to hopefully become President after 4 years of finding out what the role really needs.
The internet-ization of culture was on full display in this election. The kinds of hyperbole you saw from people supporting this or that candidate was frequently absurd. Ditto the folks who thought it was some crime against humanity when Cordeiro thanked Sunil Gulati for his service. Only having Sunil taken out in handcuffs would have satisfied some people. I don't mean to cast aspersions @Dom. FC here-- I can totally understand why Cordeiro is a somewhat disappointing choice but man, the hyperbole got out of control. I'm glad it's over.
I missed the hyperbole by only paying glancing attention. However in general, with a large self-perpetuating organization in need of change. In-house succession may give you someone that knows where the light switches and thermostats are ... but they also know where the cleaning supplies are so you're less likely to go out and get a new clean-sweeping broom. Also Goldman Sachs on the resume may not inspire confidence in a National organization that has major interactions with a white-collar crime infested International organization. Recap with presumably some hyperbole (?) here: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/10/us-soccer-election-president-carlos-cordeiro
I've seen my share of crazy over this. I consider myself a USMNT (and women) fan but in general I don't rate the opinions of USMNT fans very highly. They are one of the most annoying fan bases in all of American sports. For the most part, I'll actually read the post of a Patriot's fan before I'd bother with a USMNT fan boi.
I really came into my soccer fandom via following the USMNT back in the 90s and early 2000s. What the last year has really shown me is how much my fandom has evolved toward preferring MLS and following the Rapids (and now also Minnesota) closely. I will absolutely still cheer for the national team but it is really liberating to move past obsessing over it.
I don't see much reason to obsess. They only play like 12 games a year and are not a threat to win the World Cup. I think you are an outlier in the fanbase, they consist mostly of Euronoobs that do not know anything more than, "its better in Europe." For reasonable fans they are great gateway drug to soccer. There is a large unreasonable faction that believes MLS is the devil. In one breath professing to care greatly about the sport here in North American and in the next breath calling for an MLS boycott.
