Staff feared the worst, but it was confirmed to be only a cramp. ;)

His situation exacerbated during a training session and he is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Bad news for him, JNT, and Werder Bremen.

The goal was disallowed by VAR due to a non-existing foul.

He will start in less than hour against Bayern Munich. He had lackadaisical performance last week against Paderborn in which he was repeatedly beaten by Paderborn’s defenders.

Let’s hope he will have great performance today and at least score a goal today against Bayern:

Osako came in as second-half substitute for the second match in a row after the winter break.
Bremen were defeated 0-3 at home by Hoffenheim, but Osako showed signs of returning to top form; winning many balls and creating spaces and chances for himself and his teammates, and dealt very well with the physical pressure from Hoffenheim’s defence. He was denied a PK that should have been awarded.

Werder Bremen seems very weak especially in defence, they are tied with Mainz as the teams which conceded most goals this season. Conceding 44 goals in 19 games (2.3 goals per game) and only kept clean-sheet once.
Apart from Osako and other 3-4 players, the level of the squad does not belong to the German first division, unfortunately.

Let’s hope Osako will manage to find a better club by the end of this season. An excellent show at Tokyo Olympics will surely make better clubs interested in him (especially those outside Germany).

Werder suffers on an injury crisis this season, especially in the defense. Three of their regular halfbacks as well as the usual regular defensive MF are all injured. Overall 7 players from an overall squad of 24 are injured atm.

Yeah but still there are players like Tomiyasu, Kagawa, Okazaki even Shibasaki who have started to get more playing time recently.

Nice Assist by Osako in the cup to gave Werder Bremen a 3-1 lead against Borussia Dortmund.

Osako played in the right midfield in his first start after the winter break, as newly-signed Selke was playing as the lone-striker with Rashica playing slightly behind him. When Bremen were attacking Rashica occupied the left-wing and Osako the right.

Osako seemed more useful to his team in this position, as his ability to strip opposing players off the ball was very beneficial in the advanced midfield position to help provide other attacking players with the ball.

The match ended 3-2, and Bremen are advanced to the QFs.

This literally Bremen’s best match of the season, and I wonder if their head coach will use the same formation and line-up in the next league games.

Osako hasn't been the same since the injury in a pointless game against Myanmar. I hope the cup performance will be a turning point.

    Osako is starting tonight.

He played well against Freiburg in the last match, coming on as a 2nd half substitution, pressing the opposing players to initiate attacks, and defending decently on the other end as he cleared a dangerous aerial-ball inside Bremen's penalty area which could have been ending in an equaliser for Freiburg in the last few moments of the match.

    Clearly deserves to start tonight:

Osako and his Werder Bremen teammates played their best game of the season, as they narrowly lost 0-1 against Bayern Munich.

Osako has three dangerous chances, one in the first half, and two in the second half.

Boateng blocked Osako's path to goal in one of the chances with a desperate run, while Neuer pulled a great save in the 89th minute to deny Osako's header at the goal mouth.

If they continue to play at this level in the next two games they will be surely safe from relegation.

    Osako scored.

His 6th goal of the season.

However, his team are 2-1 down, and they looked to edge closer to relegation.

Fairly low chance Werder can still avoid relegation. To still reach the relegation playoff place (which would pit them against 3rd placed Buli 2 team, which will be one of Stuttgart, HSV or Heidenheim) Werder needs to win at the last match day while Düsseldorf has to lose its match. If Düsseldorf draws instead Werder has to win with a difference of at least 4 goals.

Osako scored his team's opening goal, as they are currently leading 3-0.

7th goal of the season, and he tied his scoring record in one 1.Bundesliga season, as his highest goals per season (7 goals) was in 2016/2017 for FC Köln.
