I thought that Australia would win because I felt that both Japan and South Korea asking for it only 8 years after hosting was too early. The US had it 16 years ago and I knew that they weren't favorites for this one!For most of us Qatar was at the bottom. But how can someone explain that Australia only had 1 friggin single vote when their claim to host was strong?Sure they're not in the best timezone but still.....1 vote? That's a shocker really!

I think this is part of the issue. In the first bid I don't think anyone would deny England as the strongest bid (given fifa don't like joint bids) and they scored a mighty one vote.

Now I'm sure Russia can conduct a decent world cup but thats not really the point here although now they've got it I wish them all the best with it.

And then in the 2nd bid Australia I personally believe had the strongest bid (since the US have already had it not too long ago) and Qatar by a huge margin the weakest bid.

Yet Australia also manage one vote!

So from that clear display we can tell the criteria for voting isn't on who is going to further the game of football or offer the best bids based on fifa criteria.

Which leads us to wonder, what is the real criteria they are voting on?

Reforms on voting process should be adopted.

FIFA should use the same processus as UEFA used this year.
Firstly none ex-co whose country bids should vote.
When there is three or more bids, there must be a special first round.
In this round, each ex-co voter would give his standing of bids for giving points based on a technical view.
    First place: 5 points
    Second place: 4 points
    ...
Bids with an average below 60 percents would be eliminated. Then the process could continue with votes until there is a winner.

We know what would have happened there----goodbye Guitar
    With an ExCo
    -Shortlist
    -Remove secret ballot
-Incentives to trade votes must be eliminated(as suggested remove bidding ExCo's)
    With the FIFA Congess
-Concentration of power must be dissipated
    All voting made transparent

At the moment hardly anyone is voting on merit. They are blinded by strategy, bribes, pressure from their own government

Asian soccer: reschedule 2022 World Cup

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP)—The Asian Football Confederation has urged FIFA to reschedule the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to January or February to avoid the desert state’s sweltering heat.

The AFC General Secretary Peter Velappan said Thursday that cooling down stadiums and training grounds with air conditioners was “not a solution” and warned that some European teams may boycott the World Cup due to the heat.

Qatar’s summer temperature can top 104 degrees.

Velappan’s comments echoed those by FIFA executive committee member Franz Beckenbauer, who earlier this month suggested making a one-time change to the European league schedules to allow the Qatar games to be played in winter.

I used to have the BigSoccer Corollary to that in my signature: As a BigSoccer discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Landon Donovan and homosexuals approaches 1.

Although, that seems to have faded with time.

So why did this person not voice his concerns before the vote? Ok, I think we all know the answer, but if this happens - and I think it will - then Qatar will have been awarded the WC under false pretenses: they bid to host the WC in the summer of '22, not another time of year. That was another requirement of FIFA that I suspect will conveniently disappear.

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a thread being closed approaches 1. That is the right answer. :D

Part 2 is on the way...
