With the second legs of the the playoff round still to be played the four pots for the group stage draw are yet to be fully known. But we do know 26 of the 32 clubs that will make up the group stage. Most of them are confirmed in specific pots for the draw while others are in limbo. Here's how the pots look going into the Playoff round second leg matches. Teams in red are involved in the Playoff matches. POT 1 Real Madrid Atlético Madrid FC Barcelona Bayern Munich Juventus Paris Saint-Germain Manchester City Lokomotiv Moscow POT 2 Borussia Dortmund FC Porto Manchester United Shakhtar Donetsk Benfica Napoli Tottenham Hotspur AS Roma POT 2 or 3 Liverpool * Liverpool,.Dynamo Kiev and Schalke all have the same coefficient score over the past five-season period. I believe the tiebreak is their score from the most recent season which, in this case, goes to Liverpool. POT 3 Dynamo Kiev Schalke 04 Olympique Lyon AS Monaco RB Salzburg Ajax CSKA Moscow PSV Eindhoven POT 3 or 4 Valencia Viktoria Plzen PAOK Thessaloniki * PAOK, Galatasaray and Brugge all have the same coefficient score over the past five-season period. I believe the tiebreak is their score from the most recent season. In this case PAOK and Galatasaray have the same score. If we go back two seasons the nod will go to PAOK so I'm placing them as the team in limbo until we hear otherwise. POT 4 Galatasaray Club Brugge BSC Young Boys BATE Borisov Dinamo Zagreb Internazionale Hoffenheim Red Star Belgrade AEK Athens MOL Videoton
Didn't know the EL winner automatically gets a top seed. Is that new? Anyway, big upset by PAOK in Lisbon means Liverpool may get in pot 2 after all.
No, they don't use coefficients to determine the composition of pot 1. Its reserved for the champions of the top leagues, and CL winner. And I guess also EL champion.
Yes, confirmed with a citation (albeit to Wikipedia, but a very well written and edited article). Pot 1 contains the Champions League and Europa League title holders, and the champions of the top six associations based on their 2017 UEFA country coefficients. If either or both title holders are one of the champions of the top six associations, the champions of the next highest ranked association(s) are also seeded into Pot 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018–19_UEFA_Champions_League What is interesting in terms of coefficients is how close Russia, in 6th (50.532), is to Portugal in 7th (49.332), for that very important Pot 1 spot. Porto in pot 2 as champions has 86.0 points while Lokomotiv Moscow has 22.5 but sits in Pot 1 as Russian champs.
Hmm.. the coefficient table I am looking at shows it isn't even close between Russia and Portugal. https://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method5/crank2019.html Plus 2 out of the 5 teams from Portugal are already out of Europe this season, with Benfica in trouble next week.
I think I know what the difference is, the one you linked to is most relevant for next season, as it includes this current 18/19 season. Whereas the one I linked to (as part of the big Wikipedia article) ignores the 18/19 season and instead includes the 13/14 season. That is what was used to place Russia just ahead of Portugal for this year's all important categories (3 teams in UCL and Champion team in Pot 1). So my link looks backwards one extra season as that is how things were determined for the 18/19 season, whereas your link shows the gap betwen Russia and Portugal is actually widening as Russia doing better in 18/19, and also, we can conclude Portugal did better in 13/14 but that year drops out going forward. Point is neither link is wrong, but yours is more important in terms of showing if a change might occur next season, and the answer there is it looks very unlikely (at least in terms of 6th place changing).
The situation following Tuesday's Playoff results. Teams in red are still to play on Wednesday. POT 1 Real Madrid Atlético Madrid FC Barcelona Bayern Munich Juventus Paris Saint-Germain Manchester City Lokomotiv Moscow POT 2 Borussia Dortmund FC Porto Manchester United Shakhtar Donetsk Benfica Napoli Tottenham Hotspur AS Roma POT 2 or 3 Liverpool * Liverpool,.Dynamo Kiev and Schalke all have the same coefficient score over the past five-season period. POT 3 Schalke 04 Olympique Lyon AS Monaco RB Salzburg Ajax CSKA Moscow PSV Eindhoven POT 3 or 4 Valencia Viktoria Plzen PAOK Thessaloniki * PAOK, Galatasaray and Brugge all have the same coefficient score over the past five-season period. Well the pots are not set till later today, but the teams still working to get in today are 400:1 or longer odds, so not really seen as a threat. Here are the longest available odds to win it all (from looking at Oddschecker which provides odds from over a dozen online bookies), starting with the favorites and working down, pre-draw. Once the draw comes out I will re-visit to see whose odds got shorter or longer based on the draw. Longest Odds to Win it All: ManCity 6 Barca 6.5 Juve 7.5 PSG 8 Bayern 9 Real 9 Liverpool 14 Atletico 16 Tottenham 25 ManU 25 Napoli 40 Inter 50 Roma 66 Dortmund 66 Valencia 200 Porto 250 Lyon 250 Monaco 250 Ajax 250 Shaktar 250 Schalke 300 *Benfica 400 Galatasaray 400 *PSV 400 Hoffenheim 500 CSKA Moscow 500 *Salzburg 500 AEK Athens 700 Lokomotiv Moscow 750 Brugge 1000 Young Boys 1000 **PAOK 2000 Plzen 2500 * Means still playing today but favored to advance today. ** Playing today but not favored to advance, no odds listed for BATE or Red Star Belgrade but if they manage to advance they'll be like 2500. @unclesox is away from the internet so I am updating in his absence. The situation following Wednesday's Playoff results. The pots are now all set, the draw will be tomorrow at 17:30 CEST which is 8:30 a.m. for west coast, 11:30 a.m. for east coast of USA. POT 1 Real Madrid Atlético Madrid FC Barcelona Bayern Munich Juventus Paris Saint-Germain Manchester City Lokomotiv Moscow POT 2 Borussia Dortmund FC Porto Manchester United Shakhtar Donetsk Benfica - advanced over PAOK Salonika so Liverpool in Pot 3 like last year Napoli Tottenham Hotspur AS Roma POT 3 Liverpool Schalke 04 Olympique Lyon AS Monaco Ajax CSKA Moscow PSV Eindhoven - advanced over BATE Borisov Valencia - moved up due to Red Star's comeback victory over RB Salzburg POT 4 Viktoria Plzen Galatasaray Club Brugge BSC Young Boys Internazionale Hoffenheim AEK Athens Red Star Belgrade aka Crvena Zvezda - advanced on away goals in Salzburg, first time in CL Group Stage but they are a former European Cup Champion (1991 over Marseille in the "most boring cup final ever")
"Death Group" could be Inter from Pot 4, Liverpool from Pot 3 (Valencia too), but Pot 2 doesn't have many truly fearsome teams, as top 6 favorites, and 7 of 8 (all but Liverpool) are in Group 1 this year.
Yeah, I could see several pot 3 teams reaching the knockout stage. I would say pot 3 is slightly stronger than pot 2 actually. Unlikely (impossible) we will see any killer group since Inter is the only difficult team in pot 4, and if they get Liverpool from pot 3 than that eliminates all the real tough possibilities from pot 2. Group of Death: Inter, Ajax, Spurs, Barca Most competitive: Inter, Ajax, Man Utd, Atletico
Road to Baku (Azerbaijan) where the Europa final is taking place, lots of 2nd legs taking place tomorrow, then the draw will be Friday I believe. These are the early top ten favorites, the odds are longer as 3rd place CL teams will be added after the group stage, which makes predicting harder. Top Ten Favorites for Europa Championship: Chelsea 7 Arsenal 9 *Sevilla 18 Bayer 20 AC Milan 20 RB Leipzig 25 Lazio 25 Marseille 30 Villarreal 30 Real Betis 33 *Plays tomorrow. I should note that teams which just missed out on the CL today and yesterday have just been added to the Europa, oddschecker is not showing them yet though, but a club like RB Salzburg might crack the top ten when they are added. Pot 1 Arsenal CC: 93.00 Chelsea CC: 82.000 Bayer Leverkusen CC: 66.000 Dynamo Kyiv CC: 62.000 Red Bull Salzburg CC: 55.500 Villarreal CC: 52.0 Anderlecht CC: 48.000 add Sevilla if they qualify tomorrow

Lokomotive and Porto .... already predicting that it will be the crappiest group of the CL this season
great ... we got the strongest team in pot 2 , Tottenham ... well at least we won't be able to get Liverpool from pot 3 now
Yeah, that's why I'm glad we didn't get Napoli when it came down to those 2. Napoli + Liverpool would've been tough.
Will edit post as Pot 3 is being drawn. POT 3 Olympique Lyon - F CSKA Moscow - G Schalke 04 - D Valencia - H PSV Eindhoven - B Ajax Amsterdam - E AS Monaco - A Liverpool - C GROUP A Atlético Madrid Borussia Dortmund AS Monaco GROUP B FC Barcelona Tottenham Hotspur PSV Eindhoven GROUP C Paris Saint-Germain Napoli Liverpool GROUP D Lokomotiv Moscow FC Porto Schalke 04 GROUP E Bayern Munich Benfica Ajax Amsterdam GROUP F Manchester City Shakhtar Donetsk Olympique Lyon GROUP G Real Madrid AS Roma CSKA Moscow GROUP H Juventus Manchester United Valencia
Group D: Lokomotiv Moscow, FC Porto, Schalke What's the opposite of a group of death? But Schalke will probably qualify so it will be a battle between the pot 1 and 2 at least, yay, parity?
