Cristian Espinoza is a top Argentinian prospect that didn't make it in Spain. He was a starter for their U-20s and has 105 Argentinian league games in his belt but he has only managed 6 La Liga games. Anyway I look at it, this is a player San Jose could use.

    This business is basically done:

Chris Richards transferred to Bayern Munich for upwards of $2 million (depending on clauses reached)………………….plus a 40% sell-on clause. A heaping pile of cash for a player that didn't play a first team game yet for FCD :)

Tangentially related since his option was declined by New England this offseason, but Femi Hollinger-Janzen has landed in Alabama with Birmingham's new USL team (that Jay Heaps connection already paying dividends??:p)

I wonder how this fits in with typical purchases by Paraguayan standards. A big transfer it more common there?

Loose definition of "native." Happy to see another upstate New Yorker make his way to MLS.

To answer my own question, did some digging on transfermarkt and it looks like this is the largest purchase ever by a Paraguayan club. Previous record was 1.3 euros so this is about 2x that fee.

That might be true, but Transfermarkt's transfer data (ironically) is often very incomplete.

Olimpia is the richest club in Paraguay but have not been as dominant in the last decade or so. Like all other Paraguay an clubs they are a seller not a buyer but every once in a while they invest in purchases. I think they are banking on going for a deep Libertadores run.

And the hoops that MNUFC had to go through to get someone that was allegedly a free agent at the pay they wanted to give him is ridiculous.. I mean, seriously, if he is a free agent, why did MNUFC have to trade up to the top waiver spot and claim him off waivers just because they wanted to pay him over max salary..
