No idea what to expect this weekend. Both teams have had very uneven form so it depends on who shows up after a tough midweek slate. Both sides got decent results, but Roma has an extra day of rest and Napoli has to feel dark about giving up the equalizer in stoppage time. I'm not sure how much home field advantage plays into this one. Also, I'll be in Crew Stadium so I won't get to see it live.
Just my heart. I'm actually a bit of an Eastern European mutt. My heritage is Croatian, Czech, German, Austrian. You know just people who wage war on their own. Maybe that explains some things. Totti (of course), De Rossi (my favorite soccer player of all time), the romance of Rome, the most awe inspiring city in the world, the Romans that continue to come up through the system and don't leave. These things brought me to Roma. That and probably my emo nature drifting towards teams that are just good enough to completely break your heart. Being at the Olympico September 11, 2016 and seeing Totti score a game winning PK in the 93rd minute and run over to the Curva Sud (where my wife and I were standing) brought the love affair to a whole different level.
Napoli is definitely the better team. They definitely have the better coach. But that's not how this works. Napoli was definitely the best team this past March and Roma won 4-2 in what was Roma's best Serie A performance of the season. I had no power that game and had to drag my computer two towns over to a coffee shop and stream online with a flask. What a ********in day. I'd be happy with a draw at this point. But really, EDF needs probably 3-4 points out of these next two weeks (at Fiorentina next weekend) to keep the rumors of his demise at bay. If Carlo continues to start Mario Rui then Roma has a chance. I'm not confident in De Rossi having much in his legs coming off injury and Champions League this week, but EDF has no choice but to start him since Cristante has been garbage. It'll be interesting to see if Pastore or Pellegrini gets the start (Pellegrini, please), and Kolarov's injury is gonna open up ways for Callejon and Mertens to get in behind us. I hope Roma starts Santon and pray that Fazio steps up his game. I'll have this one on the big tv and Crew on my laptop (for the first half). I can't wait. I'm scared. Sunday terrifies me. Hold me.
Helicopter belonging to Leicester City’s owner has crashed outside the grounds. No word on whether or not owner was on it. But rumor that LC manager might have been on board.
BBC News now saying that a source close to the family has confirmed that the Leicester owner was on board the helicopter that crashed
The fact they took so long to confirm if he was or wasn't made it obvious he was. Else they'd have just said he wasn't. Sympathies to the team and families.
It’s a shame @Placid Casual cant give us his thoughts on the owners impact to the team, the fans and the city.
The following lower-level teams advanced to the first round of the FA Cup: Haringey Borough Billericay Metropolitan Police Southport Slough Town York City Torquay United Woking Oxford City Stockport County Alfreton Town Chorley Guiseley Hitchin Town Westom-super-Mare Hampton and Richmond All are level 6 except for 7th level Haringey Borough, Metropolitan Police, and Hitchin Town
Talk about a Johnny Come Lately. You have never once mentioned Gladbach or any German soccer up to this point.
Originally made up of members of the Metropolitan Police Service, but no longer. When playing at home, they enter to the song "I Fought the Law" by the Clash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Police_F.C.
Here are the EPL formations for each team (+most frequent connections). Neat. I may have missed it but it looks like someone forgot to include the soul-crushing despair on defense and utter lack of quality in front of goal that I've come to appreciate from Newcastle.
The following 6th-level teams advanced to the second round of the FA Cup: Guiseley Slough Town Southport Stockport County Woking
Stockport, as I recall, was one of the teams that helped stock my old team, the Philadelphia Atoms in the NASL back in the day.
Good morning. It's Monday December 10th. The last time Roma won a game was Sunday November 11th. For the second time this season Roma is in ritiro. Roma has conceded 6 goals in the final 10 minutes of games. Including two to Cagliari this weekend. Including the equalizer when Cagliari was playing with 9 men. Roma has 2 points out of a possible 15 vs Chievo (20th), Bologna (18th), Udinese (17th), SPAL (16th), and Cagliari (13th). Antonio Conte has been in the stands for two of the last 3 Roma games. There are rumors that Totti has reached out to Conte to gauge his interest in the Roma job, though Totti denies this. After 15 rounds, Roma is in 8th place...5 points off a Champions League spot and 22 points behind Juventus. I'm doing great, how are you.
My Gladbach won their 10th straight at home and sit second in the table behind the "false" Borussia. And my soccer stamp exhibit won the Reserve Grand this weekend in Worthington. *I'm* doing great (even if the Iggles did lose on an odd deflection)!
Heard a rumor Roma is signing Gregg Berhalter to be their new coach. Caleb Porter will be his assistant and take over training during international breaks.
