Yes we should play him in meaningless secondary fixtures while Sanchez and others absorb first team minutes without changing the games they enter. He was running second team in preseason, he is not completely untested, the idea we have to find some basically meaningless fixture months into the season before he can see the field in MLS, neglects where he was sorting out before we felt compelled to sign Sanchez and jump him up the PT queue. When you are already down 2-0 the fear of youthful mistakes making us lose seems less valid or true (losing anyway, why not try something else). It also seems less justified that the pecking order is properly tuned when one is losing.
Don't know what you are talking about CCL, we were pretty far from making that in any competition. Maybe you mean Gold Cup but my perspective if there is a period we might rely on B team players more, coming up, I might want them used some and sorted now so I can make distinctions of who gets that time. FWIW it's unclear if the A team types will get called in for Gold Cup and how many. USA hinted they will use the A team for quali in June and September (and presumably Ghana) and experiment with Gold Cup. If other teams follow a similar approach then combined with the friendly schedule around quali games we won't miss many. Or maybe they all go. But we don't know and I wouldn't assume.
To me it boils down to bench accountability, I want stuff happening when I sub people in. If their best shot was just over the bar and their best cross was cleared to half field, and the score ends up the same, they were not good enough to make things happen.
Once the manager trusts him to perform at a certain level, he will get his minutes. This is a very basic concept in every level of the sport besides suburban Rec ball. I liked what I saw in preseason, so he may be a good player, but will have to show it to the coaching staff, and manager.
Since you're patronizing me with the rec league coach comment, I'll jab back, any idiot can send the same lineup and subs out there every week and claim he's going with the tested people, doesn't mean it's his best lineup, and having been on actual good teams in HS and club I'll tell you that the catch 22 of the mediocre coach with a winning team is them knowing when they could be even better. That a coach like that can think because he's winning he knows what he's doing. Even if he's playing the wrong people and actually making the product worse. A lot of the difference between average and good coaches is knowing (a) what is a solid formation without a bunch of vulnerabilities, (b) how to adjust tactics to get a result even when the momentum shifts against them, and (c) who is on their roster and how to use them. Being conservative and sticking with what you know doesn't make you a good coach. We had a conservative HS coach who started the same XI and made limited subs, and he managed to turn a state champion club team (or at least half its players) into a regional runnerup HS team by benching people on his own whims and personality feelings. Our losses and ties could be counted on one hand that season but he was stubborn about his XI and overlooked some talent on his bench. You probably think that sort of "play them when I trust them" is sublime -- and he never changed a darned thing just like you want, and won a fair amount doing it -- but to me it's the hiding place of the weak kneed. The net result of it to me can be a roll out the ball coach who is no better than the XI he was handed and settled upon. Coach Baker always had good teams and always was in the playoffs no matter what the Texans did that year. He cracked political eggs, benched popular people, and figured out who would win. To me it's the sign of a soft, roll out the ball type coach when he fails to get results and sticks with lineups and subs because that's what he thought worked in preseason. The ability to adjust to what happens when that formation and personnel set plays is part of coaching. It's real easy to say "well we haven't had a chance to play x and that's risky" but that just makes you conservative and not a good coach. To me it's silly to have a kid who was productive in preseason (I mean G and A) scoring for the minors then watching some old bastard accomplish nothing for the first team. And then we repeat the same road result or MN over and over. Any idiot can be stubborn and it doesn't make you good at your job.
And it's always easier to sit back second-guessing, and criticize than be the man actually doing the job.
You're pretending like I am making crazy talk when we are talking about 0W 3L on the road with a -6 GD based on 2 GF and 8 GA. No road game yet has finished closer than a 2 goal margin. That's not nit-picking or second-guessing, that's definitive TRY SOMETHING ELSE territory. Objectively. Pretending otherwise should be discrediting. If you're losing by 2 every time on the road, then the standard clichés about relying on experience (a) are not working (b) should not continue to be applied and (c) the fact of the consistent margin suggests a low, low risk to trying something new. In other words, the clichés only apply if the team is executing well enough to render them sensible. I always thought Kinnear was risk averse but he could churn out his points in his prime. If you want for me to pretend the standard cliché applies then give me reliable results. But then I don't think we'd be having this discussion if the road results were there. What's the worst that happens, we lose by 2 again? And the potential upside is you find something productive. This is conservatism for conservativism's sake. I am not saying start the kid. I am saying next time we are down 2-0 have some kids dressed and use them as subs. At least one thing I think Holland offers is we will get service to forwards, and one of the subtle issues with Cabrera's subbing has been putting fresh forwards in but leaving tired, defensive minded mids in to serve them.
Sounds like his m.o. Always picks a player not getting minutes and elevates him to messiah level. Coach doesn't play him and Dynamo don't win the cup, so he gets to exclaim "I told you so".
http://www.sounderatheart.com/2017/5/6/15566446/s2-announces-plans-to-move-to-tacoma So Seattle is doing something like the Dynamo. Their USL team S2 is moving to Tacoma and will be run by the Tacoma Rainiers AAA baseball team. There have been rumors that Portland will move T2 to Boise, Idaho. T2 played a league game there last summer.
I think its a good idea to spread your footprint. I don't know why people are so down on the idea of having the second team in a reasonably nearby town/city? Reach those that would otherwise be uninterested. Develop a pipeline for talent in those regions as well.
