Red Bull really isn't that good and Jim seems to excel at the Open Cup for whatever reason. Union win.
The Union would have to win 2 road matches just to make the semis. They might make a run again soon, but this isn't their year.
Full strength Union maybe yes... but I get the vibe that the team foolishly thinks the open cup isn't their only shot in 2017 so they will play some backups... Union loss.
I'm thinking of going, stub hub has some dirt cheap prices for this and I can work in Jersey City Weds-Thurs providing me hotel expense covfefe.
Yup. Whenever the dork running the team's Twitter account starts talking mess, you might as well write "L" in pen. I'm changing it to loss.
I would expect the Red Bulls to play their best lineup. Their next game is not for 7 days. I expect the Union to play something along the lines of the following: Sapong Picault-Alberg-Epps Medunjanin-Jones Fabinho-Marquez-Yaro-Rosenberry McCarthy That's only 3 starters from the DC game.
Maybe Simpson will get the start. There are precious few opportunities to give CJ a rest. But what do I know. I saw the team/SoB were running a $20 bus/ticket/tailgate deal. Nice work.
Sapong Picault-Alberg-Herbers Medunjanin-Jones Fabinho-Elliott-Yaro-Rosenberry McCarthy I heard that there was some discussion that Blake might be available?
Seems ages ago that they won that Cup game in Harrison. Was a fun game, especially beforehand, drinking in Ironbound and then walking to the stadium past the Red Bull's bar. Doubt we can win again.
I bet Curtin stacks this with every available starter to try and spark a run. NYRB is on our level, this year feels a little grudgier than usual, and we're probably not making the playoffs.
Chicago vs FC Cinci is on main ESPN at 8pm which seems pretty cool for a Rd 16 cup game. I'll stream the Union in the background. If Curtain cares, Blake will be in net.
I agree, but I don't think there is any way Blake starts. He was getting an MRI for his ribs the other day... that paired with negotiating availability with the Jamaican national team, I just don't see it happening. They are probably more interested in having him for the New England game, so they'll tell Jamaica they won't play him mid-week, especially if he's a little banged up. The smarter move would be to play him tonight and release him early but that lofty goal of sneaking in the 6th spot is too important.
I was thinking the same thing, but couldn't find any stats to analyze it. We won and lost without him this year. Yes, we lost when he went to National team last month, but too small a sample size to draw any conclusions.
