Cakes could've bought a USL team for peanuts a few years ago. Now, he's looking at a much larger investment. Stupid, stupid, stupid. But it makes me ecstatic to know he's been burned. Dumb arse. As for NRod, all you need to know is he continues to parrot the party line that owning (and controlling) a USL team doesn't make sense. FU, NRod!
Tulsa lost to USL leaders San Antonio tonight 1-3. Match was in SA. Fernandez, Bronico and Dekovic started. Calistri came on at 56'. Dekovic had a very nice overlapping run into the box, where he assisted Rivas for their lone goal. First time this season someone's scored on SA at their home field. BTW, Tulsa beat SA on PKs in the 3rd round of the US Open.
Tulsa lost to Swope Park Rangers last night 1-2. Game was in Tulsa. A terrible clearance, followed by an even worse defensive lapse. Other SPR goal was off a horrid turnover, creating a 2 on 1. Fernandez and Calistri started. Fernandez scored off a deflected ~22 yard shot. Calistri had a couple of good chances, but sailed a cross over his big forward's head, and SPR's keeper stopped him. But JC could've done better IMO. CFer's touch was noticeably VG.
Whoever could probably get a bargain basement price on the Roughnecks. I don't see how they're not sold to the highest bidder sometime in the offseason next fall.
LOL. I bet MLS2 teams moving back down to Tier 3 isn't that far away. My crystal ball tells me the Drillers/Energy owners "sell" the Roughnecks next fall for a pretty big profit to an out of town buyer, then USL puts the Roughnecks name on hiatus, then another local Tulsa group starts a Tier 3 club.
Tulsa plays LA Galaxy 2 in LA on Thursday night. Then the Fighting Drogbas (Phoenix) at home on Saturday. Excellent scheduling!
If you think that's bad, Aurora Borealis this past weekend played two games in two days. On Saturday a scheduled away game at Elgin and on Sunday a make up weather canceled game from June at home. Because of the games being so close together they were only able to field a 10 man squad for the home game with no subs on the bench.
Am assuming the matches were 60 minutes, a la youth tournaments. lol Frivolity aside, that's effin' brutal.
Uh no. 90 minutes. The Premier League Of America is part of USASA. Teams in the PLA include RWB Adria, Milwaukee Bavarians SC, etc. You've heard of those teams I take it?
Tulsa fell behind 2-0 in the 1st half, on terrible defensive lapses. Came back in the 2nd half and tied it up. The LA keeper saved the draw. Fernandez and Calistri played the full 90. Fernandez set up the second goal (along w/Kosuke) with excellent work in the box and put it on a platter for the finish. Tulsa dominated possession, with 70%. Next match Saturday, 7:30 pm v. the Phoenix.
I see Doody was loaned out to St. Louis FC. Should have been playing all season. WRT Calistri, is anyone being loaned to Tulsa?
Meant to post this earlier, but CFer is not playing strictly CDM any longer. Appears to have a lot more free rein to get forward than earlier and has been noticeably effective. The Tulsa announcers (who are actually good) have been pretty effusive about his performance of late. My take is that Fernandez and Calistri have benefitted immensely from regularly playing a tier down.
Tulsa v Phoenix @ 7:30 tonight. 46 hour turnaraound, effin' nuts. Will be interesting to see if CFer maintains his high level of play, how Tulsa adjusts to Calistri's absence and if the Fire loaned anyone out to replace Calistri. DJ would be my candidate. He doesn't have Calistri's pace and north/south attack mode, but everything else is VG. Have him get big minutes, what a concept!
