Waldhof Mannheim 1983-1990. I saw them play in their old home "stadium" in Mannheim (a track with a few stands--I spent much of the game walking around on the track--not much security at that level) in 1978 in the 2 BL South. My best friend growing up had family from there, so I always liked them....
Mannheim. Should have remembered that. I was in Franconia from 87 to 91, so I gravitated towards "Der Club" 1FCN. I tried to see games in as many cities as possible, didnt care who was playing. Great times. Unfortunately Mannheim wasn't one.
$60 Million dollars gets you a training facility for top team and academy teams. http://www.atlutd.com/photos/2017/04/11/introducing-childrens-healthcare-atlanta-training-ground
As an exchange student at the University of Cologne, I tried to get out every weekend to a match--so I got to see 1FC Koeln three times (vs Duisburg, Stuttgart (if you have seen the Soccer Made in Germany video Kenn Tomasch posted, I was at that match) and Frankfurt. Also saw Braunschweig (Breitner) at Gladbach and Hamburg (Keegan) at Berlin (Granitza) as well as Karlsruhe at Waldhof Manneim and Tennis Borussia Berlin at Fortuna Koeln in the 2nd division. And, of course, the local town team BC Efferen. Unfortunately, the season ended in early May due to the 1978 World Cup. The big coup was picking up tickets to see Liverpool play Gladbach in he European semis in Duesseldorf. 5 DM(!)
Not non-League/semi-pro, but Nottinham Forest has the dubious distinction of being the first team to ever win the European Cup (twice, no less), and then (~25 years later) end up in their country's 3rd division...
1 FC Magdeburg is another--though their European trophy was the Cup Winners Cup in 1974. They are currently in the 3rd Bundesliga, but were for a number of years in the semi-pro Regionalliga (IV level). Rangers would be another example, of course.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/04/19/mls-owners-reportedly-considering-investing-more-tam-funds The sarcasm in me says that this is because LA is out of cash. But, overall this is a good thing; helping teams sign and retain as many of their good young players as possible.
Not sure if anyone else is watching NYCFCFC vs Orlando, but it's really tough to tell the teams apart on TV with them both wearing the recycled shirts, as one is white and the other is a fairly light gray.
Yeah, it was pretty annoying. I don't think this game did as much to advance the cause of "wearing garbage you found in the ocean instead of clothes" as the sponsors would have hoped.
Wow. New England had a three goal second half lead AT Seattle last night, and coughed it up for a 3-3 draw.
I hate seattle as much as the next guy, but they got hosed twice in chicago with the non-pen and then the bs retake.
Mixed results from a Crew perspective in midweek. Orlando gets a decent point on the road vs San Jose. They move ahead of us in the standings with a game in hand, and one less home game played than us. Chicago definitely looks like a playoff team. They destroy Colorado 3-0. Nikolic now has 10 goals. They are a point behind us with a game in hand and one less home game played. (Side note, shockingly Mo Saeid does not look like the answer for Colorado. But with expansion continuing, he'll probably have a home to remain mediocre in the league for years to come). NYCFC gets not points vs RSL. Petke goes WAY off script and cuts his PowerPoint presentation short!!! Mike Petke shortened his pregame speech, turned off PowerPoint and told RSL to own a game it desperately needed to: https://t.co/GCBB6qLLbl pic.twitter.com/BOollaKZF9— Chris Kamrani (@chriskamrani) May 18, 2017 NYCFC remains 2 points behind us, with a game in hand and TWO less home games played. (Also of note, Villa didn't start here and came off the bench for the final 25 minutes. Somehow RSL still wins. Go figure). Philadelphia Union got their fourth shutout in a row and is now just 6 points behind us, also with a game in hand.
And here I thought our PowerPoint jokes were just jokes. Apparently PowerPoint IS a big deal in coaching, who knew?
Points logged >>>>>>>> games in hand. Home or away. Not to say these things don't ultimately matter, but I'd take a closer look at that in September and enjoy the summer in the meantime.
You make make a somewhat convincing argument, at least when it comes to allowing shortsightedness to grant us summer enjoyment, but I'm gonna need you to put that in a Power Rankings format to fully grasp your argument. If possible can you also include PPG and....Power Rankings?
Watching Orlando late. Seeing they were down to 10 men early, I watched the red card. Orlando was Unkeled big time...
