Overall, Waibel seems to like to overpay players. Granted, some of these are already built into the contracts from past years, but sheez. Did I miss something about RSL having to pick up Javi's salary this season?

    RSL Acosta Danilo M $ 65,625.00 $ 65,625.00
    RSL Allen Jordan M $ 178,000.00 $ 178,000.00
    RSL Barrett Chad F $ 99,000.00 $ 105,000.00 - more than I would want to pay
    RSL Beckerman Kyle M $ 750,000.00 $ 825,000.00 - ouch, this hurts
    RSL Beltran Anthony D $ 220,000.00 $ 230,950.00
    RSL Dunk Reagan D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 2017
    RSL Fernandez Eduardo GK $ 66,150.00 $ 66,150.00
    RSL Glad Justen D $ 225,000.00 $ 246,700.00 not a bad payday for a kid
    RSL Hernandez Jose M $ 53,004.00 $ 56,379.00
    RSL Holness Omar F $ 110,000.00 $ 133,500.00 - seems a bit high
RSL Horst David D $ 110,004.00 $ 115,004.00 - how is he making this much?
    RSL Lennon Brooks F $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 - i understand it is a loan, but this is a steal
    RSL Maund Aaron D $ 165,000.00 $ 174,437.50 - again, this seems high
RSL Morales Javier M $ 300,000.00 $ 315,000.00 bet this feels good for the FO to pay
    RSL Movsisyan Yura F $ 1,750,000.00 $ 1,973,750.00 - almost $2 mil?!?!?! Not seeing this value currently.
RSL Mulholland Luke M $ 172,500.00 $ 172,500.00 surprised it is this high, would figure more around the $125K mark
RSL Phillips Demar D $ 155,004.00 $ 162,837.33 not playing up to this level
    RSL Plata Joao F $ 350,000.04 $ 400,000.04
    RSL Rimando Nick GK $ 450,000.00 $ 470,000.00
    RSL Rusnak Albert M $ 825,000.00 $ 882,812.50
    RSL Saucedo Sebastian M $ 90,000.00 $ 100,500.00
    RSL Schmidt Justin D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00
RSL Schuler Chris D $ 127,500.00 $ 132,500.00 No way they should have paid this as a base. I can see in the $75K range with bonuses built in for games/minutes available
    RSL Silva Luis M-F $ 200,004.00 $ 208,670.67 Way too much
    RSL Sunday Stephen M $ 240,000.00 $ 253,000.00 See above
    RSL Van Oekel Matt GK $ 96,000.00 $ 96,000.00
    RSL Velazco Ricardo F $ 65,633.40 $ 65,633.40
RSL Wingert Chris D $ 134,004.00 $ 145,394.00 who had this bright idea?

RSL Beckerman Kyle M $ 750,000.00 $ 825,000.00 What the what? Good for him but man.
RSL Beltran Anthony D $ 220,000.00 $ 230,950.00 Too high for trade value?
    RSL Dunk Reagan D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 2017
    RSL Fernandez Eduardo GK $ 66,150.00 $ 66,150.00
RSL Glad Justen D $ 225,000.00 $ 246,700.00 Get this kid a decent partner for that amount invested.

    RSL Lennon Brooks F $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 This can't be his total compensation?
    RSL Maund Aaron D $ 165,000.00 $ 174,437.50 A bit much.
RSL Morales Javier M $ 300,000.00 $ 315,000.00 HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!
    RSL Movsisyan Yura F $ 1,750,000.00 $ 1,973,750.00 Start producing, please.
    RSL Mulholland Luke M $ 172,500.00 $ 172,500.00 Good for him.
    RSL Phillips Demar D $ 155,004.00 $ 162,837.33 Could be better spent
    RSL Plata Joao F $ 350,000.04 $ 400,000.04 Just trade already
RSL Rimando Nick GK $ 450,000.00 $ 470,000.00 Under paid. No way Kyle worth twice as much.

    RSL Schmidt Justin D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00
    RSL Schuler Chris D $ 127,500.00 $ 132,500.00 Per injury?
    RSL Silva Luis M-F $ 200,004.00 $ 208,670.67 Definitely better spent elsewhere.
    RSL Sunday Stephen M $ 240,000.00 $ 253,000.00 Interesting
RSL Van Oekel Matt GK $ 96,000.00 $ 96,000.00 Is this enough for hair product?
    RSL Velazco Ricardo F $ 65,633.40 $ 65,633.40
RSL Wingert Chris D $ 134,004.00 $ 145,394.00 I don't have a problem with Chris on the team. Getting too many minutes probably but a quality professional player is always a good player to have on your team. RSL just has about 4 or 5 too many right now.

What is the salary cap and how much space does RSL have? I know they have 3 roster spots available. No, I don't want to just add stuff up.

Normally I look at the list and while I see one or two that are out of whack with the league, I can understand most of them. But on this year's list, there's a bunch that make me scratch my head.

Here is a fun exercise: We have only one player on our roster with a seven figure salary - Yura. Let's compare the rest of the names and numbers of seven figure players across the league. There are 27 players across the league that make over a million dollars in guaranteed compensation.

Must be fun paying for Morales still. KB's salary is far too high.

One nice thing is seeing the bottom end salaries being a livable wage. Granted, living in LA or NY means you likely still room with another player, but for most areas it seems like you can have your own apartment or smaller house on your own. Wasn't it just a few years ago that bottom salaries were around 30k?

What is Javi making from the combo of what FCD and RSL are paying him? I wonder if we are still paying him in order to keep from being sued? I wonder how if this is the only season we will be paying him?

JESUS, that is one depressing list to look at. Not knowing anything about any of the other teams, have player salaries really gone that high or does it seem like we are just paying out the ass for guys who shouldn't even be on this team. I mean shit, we're paying almost $225k for two guys who won't be seeing many minutes this year (Horst and Barrett). And who the ******** decided Schuler was a $130k a year guy? A decision like that should get anyone canned. Same with Demar at $160k and Beckerman at $800k, that's just lunacy.

We have quite a few players who are over-priced for the trade market, who we need to trade or otherwise remove from the roster. Strangely, given that Luke and Wingert should be subs, I'm ok with their compensation because they have been asked to start so much. Our 2nd best player makes $54K?? Really?

I assume Lennon is making more than that from Liverpool. If not, it's criminal.

It's no wonder we never make any quality roster moves, we're spending 25% more on players that don't deserve it. We could've combined the Horst and Schuler salaries into a solid starting CB. For Beltran's cost we could've had a RB that's better going forward. Wingert's salary could've gone towards a solid youth backup that shows some potential. Phillips I think would be a fine enough backup, but at about 125k.

I think a lot of these salaries are because of keeping people around for too long. It'd be hard to tell most of these guys after 3-4 years that they're not going to earn more for their contributions. It's the cost of trying to push the 'RSL family'. A lot of these guys are making something like 10-25% more than they realistically should. It's one thing to keep a solid core of players, but we're even sticking around with backups for longer than we should in some cases.

ATL's payroll is around $9M. Our's is close to $8M, with $300K playing for FCD (I added it up in my head on the fly, so these are not precise totals). Yet ATL is very much better than we are. Much more than the $1M difference explains.

I am a 2nd year graduate student in my own apartment. I make 22k a year. LA/DC/NY aside, in any reasonable town Id be astounded if someone couldnt get an apartment at 50k a year. You just have to be willing to drive.

I mean these guys work 4-5 hours a day right? if that? its not like a 30 minute commute is going to kill them.

Does anyone know roughly how long the players are training for? I want to feel inclined to think that they do more than 4-5 hours a day in total, but with it more spread out with when they're training on the field, plus extra things off the field. I know Glad has said he watches tape to improve himself, and I would hope the other players do something similar as well.

Some highlights from defending MLS Cup winners:

SEA Alonso Osvaldo M $ 1,100,000.00 $ 1,141,667.00 (is he really that much better than KB? His cap hit isn't the same as KB, though, as he has the DP tag)
    SEA Bruin Will F $ 325,000.00 $ 326,666.67 - really Garth?
    SEA Dempsey Clint F $ 3,200,000.00 $ 3,892,933.50 - eh, I find this funny compared to Lodeiro
SEA Evans Brad D-M $ 300,000.00 $ 338,501.25 - further evidence that you overpay for household names
    SEA Fernandez Alvaro M $ 264,000.00 $ 294,000.00
    SEA Frei Stefan GK $ 250,000.00 $ 256,250.00
    SEA Jones Joevin D $ 90,000.00 $ 96,166.67 - good deal
    SEA Lodeiro Nicolas M $ 1,371,428.57 $ 1,743,428.57 - best bang for buck DP?
    SEA Marshall Chad D $ 350,000.00 $ 366,250.00 - Like Evans, overpay for name/age
SEA Meredith Bryan GK $ 66,150.00 $ 66,150.00 - they don't sink money in backup gk
SEA Miller Tyler GK $ 65,633.40 $ 65,633.40 - they don't sink money in backup gk
SEA Morris Jordan F $ 225,000.00 $ 237,500.00 - Honestly thought this would be more
    SEA Roldan Cristian M $ 115,000.00 $ 137,000.00
    SEA Shipp Harrison M $ 144,999.96 $ 144,999.96
    SEA Svensson Gustav M $ 170,000.04 $ 170,000.04
    SEA Torres Roman D $ 433,000.00 $ 508,812.50

Some of these are higher than I would value them at. A serious trend that I'm seeing, across the board, is that players who have been with the same team over three years have a salary higher than you would think they are worth. This is a hard battle for a GM, I get that, but a purely analytical would suggest you don't keep players after their third season.

My takeaway from that list: their backup GK is named Meredith. I'm not sure I've seen that name used for a guy very often.

Does anyone have any information on Javi's salary? I thought this year was a team option that they weren't forced to exercise due to the number of games he started last year. Or was that just a raise he was guaranteed? If we were still on the hook, who told Waibel it was a good idea to get rid of a $300k player and still pay his salary? That's just lunacy. We've got a large chunk of change tied up in another team's player. That salary is enough to get a solid CB, or at least a solid imaginary CB.

I brought it up on Soapbox and they said it must be a typo, but nothing was concrete.

RSL Acosta Danilo M $ 65,625.00 $ 65,625.00 Likely typical for an under 20 player. A benefit we will always have if we keep pushing the academy.
RSL Allen Jordan M $ 178,000.00 $ 178,000.00 He is making an amount that means he needs to produce. So far he has been our new Sturgis.
RSL Barrett Chad F $ 99,000.00 $ 105,000.00 This looks reasonable, honestly, for a veteran depth guy.
RSL Beckerman Kyle M $ 750,000.00 $ 825,000.00 Important to note that this contract was signed in 2015... RIGHT after his great World Cup campaign. There were slight rumblings about teams wanting him. I am sure we paid to keep him. Sadly, he has fallen off under current tactics, and age.
RSL Beltran Anthony D $ 220,000.00 $ 230,950.00 Reasonable salary for his talent level. He may not fit what we want to do offensively at RSL. But as a Right Back with his defensive skills, he is worth this.
    RSL Dunk Reagan D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 2017
    RSL Fernandez Eduardo GK $ 66,150.00 $ 66,150.00
RSL Glad Justen D $ 225,000.00 $ 246,700.00 Completely worth it. Hopefully we can keep him around long term.
    RSL Hernandez Jose M $ 53,004.00 $ 56,379.00
RSL Holness Omar F $ 110,000.00 $ 133,500.00 This guy needs playing time. If he isn't good enough to every see the field, then he isn't likely worth this salary either.
RSL Horst David D $ 110,004.00 $ 115,004.00 Reasonable cost for a veteran depth guy. Likely not the level of guy we needed, but we aren't overpaying him... except from the fact that is now out for the year.
RSL Lennon Brooks F $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00 Under 20 years old. I am not completely surprised by this honestly. He signed at what, 18 years old with Liverpool? I am sure the draw of playing for one of the top EPL clubs at that age was bigger than any payday hoped for at that point. This may not be 100% of his contract though. RSL might only be playing a part of it. Maybe we got it down due to not being allowed to have a buyout clause?
RSL Maund Aaron D $ 165,000.00 $ 174,437.50 I have no issue with this at all.
RSL Morales Javier M $ 300,000.00 $ 315,000.00 Would be interesting to know what this is all about.
RSL Movsisyan Yura F $ 1,750,000.00 $ 1,973,750.00 A lot of this is likely due to the contract buyout we paid to his Russian club. They tie that into the CAP hit, which is what I think made him a DP player. But I don't know how much is due to that buyout.
RSL Mulholland Luke M $ 172,500.00 $ 172,500.00 As much as people keep saying he isn't starter quality, and RSL brings in a guy to take his place, only for Luke to win it back. He's meh in the middle 3rd and deadly in the final 3rd. I am ok with his salary.
RSL Phillips Demar D $ 155,004.00 $ 162,837.33 He is alright at this salary. It left backs are a rare breed. We do need to upgrade here though... Acosta!
RSL Plata Joao F $ 350,000.04 $ 400,000.04 I really wish we hadn't just extended this contract. Plata can be good, but he just hasn't been the same player since we changed formations for HIM.
RSL Rimando Nick GK $ 450,000.00 $ 470,000.00 GK's in MLS don't tend to make this much. Rimando though is (was?) well worth is. His leadership, talent and being a crowd favorite all play a part in this.
RSL Rusnak Albert M $ 825,000.00 $ 882,812.50 Looks to be worth the investment so far. Another guy whose salary I believe is inflated due to a transfer fee IIRC.
RSL Saucedo Sebastian M $ 90,000.00 $ 100,500.00 Good value at this cost. Another under 20 year old guy, so his salary will be lower.
    RSL Schmidt Justin D $ 53,004.00 $ 53,004.00
RSL Schuler Chris D $ 127,500.00 $ 132,500.00 Completely worth this IF he stays healthy and IF he is our 3rd or 4th center back. I really have no issue having Schuler on this team at this price at all.
RSL Silva Luis M-F $ 200,004.00 $ 208,670.67 Ouch. This is one of the few contracts that I am disappointed in. He was worth this cost leaving DC United. Might have been worth this when we signed it, for what he could be for us. But man has he just played like he doesn't care.
RSL Sunday Stephen M $ 240,000.00 $ 253,000.00 Loved this guy last year. Expecting him to leave the club soon after results this year.
    RSL Van Oekel Matt GK $ 96,000.00 $ 96,000.00
    RSL Velazco Ricardo F $ 65,633.40 $ 65,633.40
RSL Wingert Chris D $ 134,004.00 $ 145,394.00 Another vet making a reasonable wage for what he is.

I don't have as much of an issue with the contracts as many have had here. I think taking everything into account. Timing of the contract, what the player brings, what other realistic options where out there, etc. I think we have actually done alright. My concern though is that we have too many of the Veteran Presence guys on this team. We already have that in guys like Beckerman and Rimando. I don't see the added need for so many others who were meant as depth when we have a working pipeline from our Academy and Real Monarchs.

I do believe we will see a lot of changes though after this season as Petke is able to have input into the type of guys he wants. I am sure a good number of our veterans are on 1 year or expiring contracts too, so that will make changes easier to accomplish.

Unless I am mistaken I'm pretty sure these are salary numbers, so things like Yura's tranfer fee are not included.

That being said, Yura is making waaaaay too much. It blows my mind to think he is making more than BWP.

Actually, you are probably right, as this has nothing to do with showing a CAP hit on a team or anything. So, my assumption was likely incorrect. In which case. That Movsysian salary is really off for the type of production he is bringing in. He is scoring some goals this year. For $2m a year though, we should have someone who can create chances on their own, and actually fit the system better.

That's why I asked the earlier questions if it's money paid to avoid a lawsuit and, if so, is this the only year of it?

lawsuit fees are included on this but transfer fees arent? I'm really thinking this is just a matter of someone hitting the wrong team when assigning his salary. A salary that is wayyyyyyy too high, I might add
