I agree. We will continue to produce solid attackers (Muyl, Etienne, etc) and the guys you go out and grab from foreign leagues should be true difference makers. At the very least they should be able to suit up more than half the time.

Yes, we have some fine attackers, but its hard not to think optimistically about Adams, too. He's a bulldog who can cover ground and his forward passing from the d-mid position is very impressive.

I like to see a team built from the midfield and he gives us a cornerstone for the foreseeable future. He will have his ups and downs this year but his talent level is very, very high.
At this point I really want another starting caliber CB, for Murillo to push for starter's minutes, and for either Veron to come good or for us to move on and replace him with an attacking player at a similar price point.

This club identifies & promotes so many quality midfielders. Would love to see a few quality defenders being brought up through the ranks. So far, the staff is not pulling the trigger, if anything suggesting the ones we know about like Borges, Powder, and Gloster, are just not ready for prime time. None the less, I want to see them produce another Miazga.

"The game is won in midfield" as the saying goes.

However, I'd add the following addition to that old saying: "The game is won in midfield UNLESS YOU IGNORE ALL THE OTHER POSITIONS."

And yes, I do believe we've been ignoring the back line for years. Quite frankly it pisses me off.

Don't know how many of you folks are local enough to attend RBA games, but I'm gonna pose this question anyway...

I usually attend 2 maybe 3 home matches a season. And I have to say that great deals on tickets tend to get me out there to more. 4-5 years ago I could easily get regular season tickets for $12.50 using 50% off promo codes. Then those codes went away and the ticket prices gradually rose, and I generally had to pay $20-25. Although one match last year I got for $18, that's a rare outlier.

So just now I went on their website and was surprised to see seats for as low as $15 for a few games, and quite a few for <$20. Which made me think that there's been a concerted, and long overdue, effort by the club to make tickets more affordable and get butts in the seats.

Am I reading this right? Is this what I should expect for the whole season? If so, that would be terrific.

should rebrand to new jersey redbulls and use the new jersey vs new york angle to get the people that live in and around the stadium to go to games. Its 2017 if the mls wants to feel legitimate and authentic with supporters and the world.

There's a litany of reasons why we don't draw a huge crowd. Season averages increase very slightly every year so whatever.

Agree with you Olo. Would love to see them rebrand to NJ (and add a red kit AND a throwback kit). Not sure that would resonated with too many people to increase attendance though. I honestly think that apart from keeping tickets affordable the only thing that can fill the stadium is time. Generation after generation of fans.

Losing the NY name would cut off the meager media coverage in NYC that the Red Bulls get. It would also hurt the NYC-fan base. Why would we cross the river to support a NJ-named team?

Agreed. I've thought Robles is consistently one of the very best keepers in MLS, at times the best. I wonder how his salary compares to other keepers in the league?

p.s. It's hard to look at that list and not find inequities in it. Nature of the beast I guess. At any club.

Meara never plays in MLS and has the the 13th highest base salary out of 28 players.

Muyl seems like the bargain of the bunch to me, clocking in at just under $70K for a starting winger and often times this year the team's best attacking player.

Game ends 3-1 with Dax pulling one back at the very end and getting a standing ovation from the crowd.

They need to keep RBNY. It doesn't hurt the Jets or Giants. I am a NYC person and don't want to see if become a Jersey only thing.

If it were my choice I'd name the team "Metro New York". So the "Metro New York Red Bulls" complete with a new secondary logo, or "Metro New York SC" if Red Bull ever left or didn't care about naming the team after the brand anymore.

But in the end I don't think it would mean much for attendance. Merchandise would sell better, but attendance? those who care are already here, I don't think there's that many fans on the "I'll only go if their named so or so" bandwagon, so the impact would be negligible. Some people don't care enough to make the trip, and some just don't care about local soccer, is what it is.

The Red Bulls have a solid base right now, a strong core of diehards and people who won't leave the club for anything else because they're too invested. All they can do is satisfy who they already have aboard and hope things continue to hold firm for another generation as the natural spread of fandom from those people to their families occurs.

New Jersey has the fourth largest youth association in the country and the 2nd largest in Region 1, that doesn't happen without being adjacent to New York City (and to a lesser extent Philly). It just makes sense to see ourselves as a part of the metropolitan area that makes it all possible.

Absolutely pathetic display last night--i couldn't believe this was the team that looked as if it had turned things around just a few weeks ago. Last night they looked as hapless and as lost as they did in March when the season started. At some point they will have to figure out how to win away games. Robles is the best player on the team and in my opinion RBNY cant pay him enough. Granted losing 3-0 is pretty bad just as I'm praising Robles, but if it wasn't for him the beatdown would have been even worse. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly is wrong with this team--there just seems to be a general malaise. BWP and Muyl were missing shots. the offense was having trouble generating opportunities, and the defense seemed to be as soft as butter.

Dax wasnt exactly the most gifted midfielder, but his heart and his work rate were second to none and seemed to provide a spark while he was here. The team right now has a huge void at midfield--they need someone that can read the game and make a killer through pass on a diagonal to the strikers. But more than that they just need someone that will take on the role of team captain on the field and kick players' butts into action when necessary.
NY Red Bulls 0- Philly Union 3 :(
