We've signed Anthony Fontana to a homegrown deal, effective 1/1/18. Source: 887018805091860480 is not a valid tweet id With Najem and Fontana, does this mean that we might be dropping one (or both) of Ilson Jr. and Alberg at season's end?
Well it's obvious Alberg and Ilsinihio aren't long term options... I think Alberg is def out after 2017... Ilsinihio may linger a bit.
I think Ilsinho could stay too since he seems to really like it here. He'd have to take a massive reduction in pay if he were to resign. I'd be happy with Najem as our backup #10 next year, if that is going to be the position he settles into.
Earnie would be likely to hold out for a really good offer. They've said in the past that they see Blake as part of the team's long term foundation. A lot of people suspect he fielded offers over the offseason and turned them all down.
Any rumors of a Union Player signing, or player being pursued by a team abroad would likely come from outside the Union Organization. Ever since Earnie took charge the leaks have been largely plugged. Not to mention everything has really dried up since technical staff moved into the team facility and away from all the leaky interns.
We've already signed a #10 in this window: Tony Fontana. Earnie gave you gold and you're demanding platinum!!!
It's hard to see a better time to sell coming soon. I suspect they will take their time to get the right offer though. There's no urgency to sell on the part of the union.
They probably also feel a lot better about what they have in McCarthy after seeing him play the last few weeks. The team has been poor but he hasn't been the problem. He looked serviceable* to me. (* by MLS and tradtional Union GK standards)
And here's JC laying the groundwork for Blake's imminent departure after tomorrow night's blanking of the USMNT. 889945248427724800 is not a valid tweet id
I can see Curtin starting JMac over Blake after the break since he is playing so well for the Union. I almost put that in red but then realized I CAN see Curtin doing just that.
Just saw a bit of this presser. Jimbo says - 'boy their back three stayed tight and we needed to get our outside backs more into the attack.' That's quite an astute observation Jimmy. Of course Fabhino and Rosenberry are the only backs ever to produce an offensive threat so...maybe somebody should have started them right? Right?! But who can we turn to to make that decision? Hmm...maybe THE COACH!!! GOD. DAMN.
I don't think Belgium, Netherlands nor Turkey will pay the kind of money that we might expect for Blake. These leagues very rarely pay more than $2-3M for a keeper. I think it would more than likely need to be a top flight team if we want $4-5 million. $10M player transfers for field players are a dime a dozen, but goalie transfers over $10M are not all that common, even among the big clubs. If we sold him for $2M, we would only get $1.3M. If we are going to lose him anyway, then I'll take it, but if he is willing to stay, pay the man and we have an elite MLS keeper for years to come.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Union got more then $4M-$5M for Blake. Blake is a very talented shot stopper, but his distribution is lacking and he's not very good at organizing his defense. He's not Donaruma. Plus only EPL teams have the stupid money to overpay for a young goalkeeper. Most EPL teams are looking for EPL proven keepers.
I don't think they'll get that either, it's unlikely an EPL team would risk that move. Then again, EPL teams have never shied away from MLS keepers ie. Howard, Guzan & Friedel (albeit at less than $4M).
If you move Blake on, I'm not seeing the big pay day now. It would have to include some sort of sell on clause to get a huge payday.
