So Ilshinho's time with the U is over. No way they play him the rest of the games. That's a horrible way to do business. Is almost like when Llorente was sold to Juventus and Loco Bielsa wouldn't play him for half a season even though Bilbao kept losing and losing games.
Guy will probably show up to preseason in January and be the only player without a nameplate above his locker ... and he'll have a letter from Jay Sugarman which starts out as, "Dear Sir/Madam"
Didn't Llorente walk on a free? Also, I thought Bielsa left Bilbao after they lost the Europa League Final?
Is this type of clause in Ilsinho's contract normal? I don't recall hearing something like this before.
Yeah, I feel like I've definitely heard of automatic incentives like this before. Though, I'm not sure how having to be chained to the Union for another year is much of an incentive. It's like mutually assured destruction.
Yes, he signed with Juventus in January 24 for the following season at the end of his Bilbao contract so he was lame duck for 5 months. And yes, Bielsa left at the end of that season. but between Jan through May Llorente basically sat on the bench except near the end while the team kept losing games. Sorry I misspoke when I said sold.
why was Bielsa so pissed though about Llorente signing? It seems crazy they'd leave 1 of the best players on the bench over a spat. was that the season Bilbao finished 4th in the league?
Twellman is confused as to why the Union wouldn't sell Alberg if a European team had offered money. Easy answer: no one actually offered them money.
No, they finished twelve but if I'm not misremembering there were times they were around 16th. They finished 4th with Valverde de following year. Seems Llorente was frozen out due to contract. He hasn't done anything since. Was he in the world cup winning side? No way anyone offered the union money for Alberg. I'm sure not even a deal on a used car was offered.
Yeah Llorente played in the Portugal match during the WC. I recall he was named to the 2012 roster. I was just amazed that the manager would keep him froze out despite the club needing his scoring abilities.
Pretty sure it was Kristian Dyer of Metro who reported that. Otherwise known as Nick Sakiewicz's little box of rumors.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...&utm_content=KickoffStory&utm_campaign=100417 14 LAST WEEK: 15 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 22 Bring this team back in 2018 with a DP playmaker and a DP winger. The Power Rankings Politburo wants to see that. I continue to believe that this team is 3 players away from being very good: Sapong NEW WINGER - NEW AM - Bedoya Medunjanin-Creavalle Wijnaldum-NEW CB-Elliott-Rosenberry Blake
A good start.... but we are more than 3 players away from contending. 3 players might get us over the line, but contend, nope. Need to replace Sapong, Creavalle, and Wijnaldum from that lineup.
Ideally, we would terminate Simpson's contract, sign a #9 and use Sapong as the backup. I'm still convinced that the Bedoya-Medunjanin pairing doesn't work against good teams. I would much prefer to have a traditional #6 like Creavalle (or, hopefully, someone better) to pair with Medunjanin and move Bedoya to the wing.
I think it is more complicated. We need a good team that can support player rotation. Rotation that puts the right team on the field for the opponent that day. So, it can't be just three players. We need the right set of players to take on most of the teams in MLS. My guess is that it is at least six players that we need.
Alberg wants to stay. Roland Alberg says he'd like to remain with Philadelphia Union #MLS https://t.co/KVoXCrVsiP— Union Rumors (@UnionRumors) October 19, 2017
