YAAAAASSSSS, I know I know I know, they haven't finished building the team and the SuperCombine just ended and the SuperDraft in which we don't seem to have any SuperPicks hasn't happened and oh FFS stop with the realism. Just make some predictions!!! Eastern Seaboard Conference 1- TFC were my pick last year to win it all, still all Gio which is good enough 2- RBNY former big spenders now a case study in "right spending" 3- NYCFC still a case study in being rich enough to spend out of your mistakes can work 4- CMB what the what? Quietly getting their shizzle together 5- MTL they have resources and a pipeline of good Euros one signing from dangerous 6- PHL OPTIMISM!!!! (Wholly predicated on Edu getting 20+ games) 7- ATL announcing their presence with authority, miss playoffs on GD 8- CHI off-season to date shows some strategery 9- DCU got hot last year, not sure that rabbit is in the hat 10- NER end of the Heaps era by 8/1 11- OCFC a lot of FO churn rarely predicts success. KaKa can't keep drinking whatever Jagr does forever. Right? Western an Flyover State Half League 1- FCD because I can't go a day in MLS w/o hearing how amazeballs their academy is 2- SEA defending CalvinCup champs will slow eventually. Maybe? I hope? 3- COL Howard! Zac! Howard! Zac? 4 LAG start strong and fade after Jermaine leads mutiny on Onalfo E - VAN that Manneh guy is a Murican now 6- POR Porterball gets into the playoffs. How? Dunno. 7- RSL Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman celebrates their 12,359 game together 8- SKC Vermes thuggery ball struggles 9- SJ Man you forget they're in the league sometime 10- MNU welcome to the bigs, you crazy loon 11- HOU the ghost of the Sheanonemanon haunts them

I predict that I will not make any predictions until the week before the season starts because it remains unclear which teams will have which players, what additional players will be brought in, who is injured, etc. until then.
My prediction is that we won't suck/be good enough to have things wrapped up either way, and the 4 Sunday games at the end of the year will be at the same time as the eagles and I'm gonna be mad as shit
Bold prediction ... Union fans will be upset about something small and inconsequential, calling for Curtin's firing before the ASG. You can take that to the bank, put it in your pipe and smoke it, and all that jazz.
Predictions......... In all actuality Scotty, given the timing of the request, it leaves me compelled to channel my inner Winslow (he'd be cool with it) : " Don't care about nuttin' but this U. They're coming for my legs.......trying to hurt me....I'm gonna kill them first. I'm a soldier !" Unconcerned with who finishes where. Couldn't be bothered. 2 new clubs...LA in transition......Dempsey? Only thing gonna get me worked up league wise is if Piatti leaves......... Dallas has taken two major hits. All these new acquisitions- how to play the game? From a Philadelphia perspective, I like to begin each pre-season by penciling in 34 straight league losses, and adjusting my outlook from there based on coaching and the 2-deep roster. Recently; it hasn't felt like I've needed to use my eraser all that often...........
@thomas19064 That's the spirit! @ericlfd midseason anger form already, focused! @Dills the two foot putt of predictions @LuckyStriker 0-0-34 was my 2010 prediction, but if there's one thing MLS has taught me, mediocrity is not the sole domain of the Union. Some of these guys love to mail in a road trip, bunker, lose on some late counter, and complain about how hard it is to win on the road in the league (with negative tactics).
Well, to the rosy outlook of the reditorially inclined, yes. I think we'll improve upon last year, but I'm not sure how much mileage that will get us as other teams make their upgrades as well. That's the big fear for me, improvement relative to ourselves while league-wide we stagnate or fall behind. I see us on the bubble of the playoffs and would not be displeased with a 3-4 place regular season finish, though I more likely see us in a 5-7 position. I don't think we risk finishing dead-last, and would put the likelihood of that situation on par with us finishing first. I would like to see, or will keep my eye on: Utilization and development of HG players for BSFC (if not a complete disaster) System flexibility and a more sophisticated use of the current 4-2-3-1 Beat NYRB, NYCFC, DC at home. Make life hell for them on the road Get rid of the defensive brain farts Mo Edu, Mo Edu. Wherefore art thou Mo Edu?
Ok, here's my way too early and subject to change after the pre-season has concluded predictions: East 1. TFC - Seba, Bradley, Altidore....plus lots of promising young players 2. RBNY - Marsch and Company will continue to be regular season stalwarts 3. Crew - Mensah will help shore up that D, last season was a blip 4. NYCFC - Good mix of world class talent and promising young players 5. Impact - As long as Nacho Piatti is there........... 6. DC United - Benny Ball continues to Roll Along 7. Union - They'll be improved, but unfortunately will just miss out on the playoffs 8. Chicago - They'll be much improved, unfortunately so are the teams they're chasing 9. Atlanta United - Lots of unknowns. Roster is looking good on paper. This prediction will change after pre-season 10. OCSC - Haven't done anything to address their Defensive issues, and KaKa is a year older 11. NE Revs - Haven't made any moves. Team is getting long in the tooth and needs freshening up. Heaps Last Stand? West 1. FC Dallas - Reigning Shield & Open Cup winners strengthened their roster 2. SSFC - The Champs continue to roll along 3. SKC - Made some nice moves to improve the roster, and get younger 4. RSL - Great DP signing. This should be a fun team to watch. 5. San Jose - Signing Quintaro is a coup for them. 6. LAG - The Galaxy always seem to find a way. They'll move higher if they pull off the MNT Double Swoop. 7. PTFC - Like the moves they've made, a lot depends on their consistency. Could easily finish top half 8. Colorado - Don't see them getting all of the breaks they got last season 9. Houston - Team makeover in full swing. The Dynamo could surprise 10. MNUFC - The Loons will be a fun bunch to watch, but expansion teams rarely compete in year one. 11. VWFC - Don't see Robinson surviving this season. Haven't done nearly enough to keep up with the conference. Shield: FC Dallas USOC: Philly (Yeah, I know, Homer pick.....) MLS Cup: Seattle
East 1. New York Red Bulls - Amazing team that plays together like no other. Will clean up defense and make more good signings. Maybe they will finally get far in playoffs? 2. New England Revolution - I've always thought they've been sleeping giants for a while. They're just one good DP away from becoming a top, top team. Defense will be insane this year. 3. Toronto FC - Best MLS team on paper by far. Will slip up a couple of times though that will set them back to third in the division. Defense will get even stronger. 4. NYCFC - Last season with their big DPs. Should sign another mid season. Defense is getting better. 5. Columbus Crew - Bounces back into playoffs after an awful last season. Injured players come back and Kamara will still be hot. 6. Atlanta United - Amazing team on paper....and on the field. Fantastic coach, academy, fan base, and will make the playoffs in their first season. 7. Orlando City - Misses playoffs to its rival Atlanta United and it will sting. Will sign good players but defense will struggle to keep points. 8. Philadelphia Union - Another slightly subpar season. Nothing awful but nothing good either. Need a solid DP to make playoffs. 9. Chicago Fire - Good offseason signings. Will come out of the gates but fade second half of season. Better than last season! 10. DC United - You can't win the MLS without DPs. Its ridiculous. 11. Montreal Impact -My biggest bold prediction not really based on anything except intuition West 1. Seattle Sounders - Best west team on paper. Will continue to improve with Lodiero. 2. San Jose Earthquakes - Obviously my craziest pick but I think they will be the 2016 Rapids this year. They will get amazing DPs and young players will come to the rescue this year. 3. Vancouver Whitecaps - Another sleeping giant IMO. Just one good DP away from being a fast and difficult team to play against. Will make good signings and maybe a big one in the summer. Will surprise people this year. 4. FC Dallas - What comes up, must come down. A fantastic team that has amazing academy players coming up with impeccable defense. But I think they might trip up a couple of times this season. Still make playoffs and does well. 5. Houston Dynamo - Amazing offseason signings. Will bounce back up the table into playoffs. 6. Colorado Rapids - Without Jones this team will un-gel and not be the same. Still will have a decent season. 7. LA Galaxy - Wayyyy too many questions going into this season. Aging players and can't continue to rely on older players. Defense is a huge question and I've never been impressed with their goalie lineup. 8. Real Salt Lake - They'll have an unexpected bad year. Midfield and forwards will not rack up enough goals. 9. Portland Timbers - Need another DP soon. Defense was unwatchable last year. 10. Minnesota United - Won't get last but won't get first. Not good enough to even think about playoffs. 11. Sporting KC - Aging team and Dwyer is on the downhill. Too many questions with this team and defense. When I saw @ScottyMac26 open this thread I wanted to immediately post. But I waited, and waited, until there was only 4 days until the Union open the 2017 season. Have I learned anything since the initial prediction was made on January 13th? I'm not sure, and after seeing the team in person against DCU I'm not overly confident about the squad. However, there's always hope we could be this year's Colorado. With that in mind: East 1. Toronto 2. Pigeons 3. Energy Drink FC 4. Philadelphia 5. Columbus 6. Per Bovada our odd of winning MLS Cup are currently 33/1. They were 33/1 in December 2016, so apparently our off-season moves did not impress the bookies.
Those are terrible odds. If I bet on the Union to win the whole shebang, it better pay me out one hell of a lot more than 33-1.
