Now we're in 18th place. Yes, that's one place below mighty, mighty Minnesota, putatively the worst MLS team ever.
Some stats-head can do a lengthy analysis to compare the talent level on a team with how they actually are faring results wise. You might find some over-achieving teams who do more with less, and then you have the Revs who have enough talent that they should be at least in the top 2/5ths of the league (meaning they are better than 60% of the teams). Instead we are in the 40-50% range. On the other hand, you can make the simpler argument that any team is exactly as good as their record shows, no better, no worse.
What's different from last year? We've underperformed for quite a while and no one in the front office seems to notice/care/find anything wrong with it. This has to be the tightest range we've ever had for a season at this point, high of 11th, low of 18th, only a 7 place spread. Didn't we have one year where we were second in power rankings at one point and last at another. I guess this just means we're consistently sub-par this year. Cue Mike Burns: "Jay's been really consistent this year."

At least we've been consistent this year? We've been consistently mediocre (winning at home; losing away) but maybe that's better than the extreme ups and downs that we've experienced with Heaps's teams of the past couple of years? I'm struggling to find a positive here...
