Duke has this. Quinn is the connector, at holding midfield. She makes this Duke team go, connecting passes quickly, switching the field quickly. Our attackers all have this ability as well (Dorsey, McCoy, Racioppi, and Stevens especially). We had possession for most of the game, in every game this year ('cept maybe the Carolina acc final which was even I'd say), so it will be interesting to see who possesses more when we meet UCLA and maybe (hopefully) Stanford.
Ah yes I remember Quinn from the Canadian national team and I did see one Duke game earlier in the season where she stood out as you describe. Hope you didn't just jinx UCLA. They have yet to get by Princeton.
There’s also the chemistry factor. It’s difficult enough to collect the right players but then you have to deal with implementing a system while accounting for limited practice time and classes cycling through every year. It’s really only the perpetually top programs that can maintain a consistent enough talent flow to make it work. Even then, you have to plan out your recruiting classes just right. UVA is a perfect example. They played a nice style a few years ago but haven’t been able to bring in the right players to keep it going.
You're spot on... 62' Anika Rodriguez with the ball and the GK charging at her has a wide open teammate to pass to, and chooses to take the shot and it's blocked.
