Penn State vs. Ohio State was a classic. Player of the match was Devon Kerr. Team of the match was Penn State, as they were all over Ohio State.
Penn State wins the Big Ten tournament, defeating Northwestern 2-1 (they had to finish indoors because of a 2 hour rain delay). Looking forward to the NCAA Tournament Selection Show tomorrow.
Here's the reply I received, "I don't know if they recorded the 2nd half. I only saw the 1st part that was outside. I didn't see it yesterday online anywhere on BTN2GO. I know they didn't stream the 2nd half live." The match was finished indoors 2 hours later. And we're back. 7:32 to go in the first half. 1-0 Wildcats. pic.twitter.com/1N83kAYHeP— Penn State Women’s Soccer (@PennStateWSOC) November 5, 2017
Penn State gets a #3 seed and would be in the same bracket quadrant as #2 West Virginia and Rutgers. The good thing is that Rutgers and West Viriginia would potentially face off against each other before have to potentially play against PSU. Moving on down the left side of the bracket! 👀#NCAASoccer pic.twitter.com/Diw7BTbIvR— NCAA Soccer (@NCAASoccer) November 6, 2017

Penn State defeats Wake Forest 2-0 with both goals in the 2nd half. Goal scorers: Ortega-Jurado 59' and Freigang 66' (PSU's 2 German nationals) Rose Chandler had 5 saves. Stat Comparison WF - PSU Shots 15 - 7 Shots on Goal 5 - 3 Saves 1 - 5 Corner Kicks 2 - 2 Stats favored Wake Forest, but PSU's depth outlasted a hard working WF team. At least this match didn't go to PK's. Phew!!
Penn State defeats West Virigina 3-1 and moves on to the Elite 8! We face #1 seeded Stanford next week (who just beat Florida State 1-0). PSU is 1 win away from going to the final four!
Next Match: Stanford vs Penn State Date: Nov 24 (Friday) Time: 5:00 PM ET Place: Stanford, Calif. TV: PAC-12 NETWORKS Stream: http://pac-12.com/womens-soccer/event/2017/11/24/penn-state-stanford
Stanford is dismantling PSU. SU is now up 4-0 in the 24th minute of the 1st half. That's a wrap folks; I can't see PSU coming back from this deficit. I knew our defense was leaky this year.
Looked like the 2nd and 3rd Stanford goals were somewhat flukey, seeing-eye scores--the balls on each somehow rolling past four players and then the keeper and into the net. Strange--though the camera was far away on the replays I saw. Even without those goals, of course, Stanford wins 2-nil.
No, not flukey goals. I really think PSU needed a more defensive strategy. Congrats to the Card, they played very well yesterday and are very good defensively. They have to be the clear favorites now.
Yes she is. I'm still surprised she transferred out of Penn State. The only reason I can think why that happened is because PSU didn't have any scholarships left this year for her with the returning youth national team players, but it's only a guess.
Stanford and UCLA play a modern soccer that fits for 2017. Possession oriented but also very effective. Most of the other teams especially in the ACC should take a note. Duke might be an exceptiona, although they have consistency issues. They might not win the CC because everything can happen in one game, but they are playing the most inspirational soccer in the US including the UWNT.
I think it was because she wanted to start! With Ball, Riehl, Elliston, Basinger and Jean back, she was never going to play. Smart move. Transfers to S. Carolina, starts at center back, and takes her team to the college cup.
Can't pull power 5 scholarships. It wasn't money. I think Dambach just told her she wouldn't play because her WC super stars were coming back. Thank you for your service.... But Fisk with the last laugh
Real possession soccer requires outstanding first touch and passing technique to play quickly before pressure overwhelms and the technique and tools to play out of said pressure. Very few can do this hence the "just boot it" after a pass back, conceding at least a 50-50 if not possession. Possession soccer also requires outstanding vision to see the runners and great movement off the ball to assure ready options. Very few women, much less teams, have enough players with these characteristics. You don't need every player with these abilities but there has to be a critical mass with good enough abilities. A few with outstanding characteristics carry the day. Stanford does have these players in especially Sullivan and Macario.. UCLA has Flemming who holds possession for them through the midfield with Sanchez playing her technically sound and intelligent partner. mace stretches the field and creates space and a long option for the midfield. UCLA fails when Rodriguez decides she's going to carry the ball every time she'son it. She too often concedes possession. I haven't seen enough Duke to comment.I know UVA tries to play possession soccer, but I don't see them possessing in the attacking third like the PAC12 do.That's where it breaks down for them. Not enough creativity in movement off the ball and slipped balls through etc. They are better than most in the midfield but can't create the final product.
