Damn, Busio wins it back and goes on a run but Lopez is just off before he cuts it back to Perez for an easy chance to finish. 1-1 '64
Brazil gets the overlap on our right and Las doesn't get enough on the cross but the man on the back post is off. Bello gets the ball caught in his feet tracking a throughball and it falls to Brazil who put it wide right. 1-1 '69
#18 does a bunch of stepovers on the LW and the Brazilian RB just steps in and shields it out for a goal kick. 1-1 '75
FK from 30 after Scally cuts in, just about dead center. Busio goes short to #8 on the right side of the box and his waist high cross is blocked and Brazil takes it the other way. 1-1 '80
Brazil wasting time in the corner. US wins it but can't get it out, wins it back in Brazil's half, we lose it, Brazil counter 2 v 3, we win it back. US FK 27 out, right of goal. Busio over it, hits it into the wall. 1-1 FT
Brazil played for a draw in a friendly youth tournament lol. They were really bad, I thought, worst performance I think I've seen of Brazil against us in any youth tournament, and that includes the team we beat 3-0 last year. I thought we did okay in this game, we were really good defensively, same problems with a lack of creativity in the attack, midfield isn't very good either, but they were good enough today.
Lopez is better than Ocampo-Chavez IMO. He does more in the attack and is better on the ball. Other players need to be called-up for sure.
A much better performance by the USA. Arguably the better team. Both goals in the game were almost identical set pieces from the same corner to a wide open teammate in the same spot who heads it in to the same part of the goal. USA with a ton of possession but not many great scoring chances until minutes 48-60. People like Stroud, but I only see a player that makes some strange decisions and is always ending up on the ground. Sent a half dozen hospital balls to Saldana; that Saldana actually mostly controlled and worked out of. This let the USA work through the midfield for the first time all tournament. I think Chavez attempted 22 dribbles in the tournament and completed 0. Many times a team mate was waiting for a simple pass too. After 230 minutes, instead of losing the ball on a dribble he sent a very nice long cross in that should have been a goal. But most attacks died on his feet. Busio combined well with Bello but when not doing that, usually didn't do anything productive. The defense was much better, especially the first 70'. The whole team was more organized and it seemed like Hack went with a 3-man midfield and we actually won the midfield for the first time since maybe the India game that the WC. Imagine that. I agree that Hagan doesn't do much of anything. Scally tried some things and they generally didn't come off. But looked lively. Fuentes is very good on the ball. Seemed to get hurt and Hack didn't sub him for 20 minutes after the knock. In those 20, he didn't/couldn't do much, but before the injury was very pivotal in letting the USA possess in the final third.
For me it looks like ---------------------------Las (gk) ------------Judge-----Alejandre------Bello ----x-------fuentes-----stroud-----Saldana------Busio-- ---------------------x------------------x I'd like to see Busio put at wb. I'd like to see Bello try for the Mats Hummel role out of the 3rd cb position and bring the ball out of the back. It's pretty clear we lack forwards. I"d like to see USSF go away from the default 4 man back line formation because I think the 3 man back line will encourage the following: 1) search for more exceptional two way wide players in the wb role 2) search for a third cb who can specialize in passing out of the back 3) search for more exceptional mids who can both defend and distribute through midfield efficaciouisly
