Lots to talk about from POR v SJ. How about that 2CT from Kevin Stott on San Jose? A bit soft, but if you commit a foul like that immediately after earning a caution, seems legit. Surprised, though, that Guzman also didn't see a 2CT for a tackle he had late in the game. Seemed a bit inconsistent from Stott. Also, I'll try to find video, but PK or no PK on Bingham's tackle on Adi?
From the camera angle on TV it doesn't even appear to be a foul. Stott must have seen something from the opposite direction, I assume Ceren threw an arm into Blanco. https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/m...-vs-san-jose-earthquakes/details/video/105920
I think Stott got all of the key incidents correct. The 2CT was deserved; it was a late challenge (most/all of which earned cautions in the game, I believe) and the player probably didn't think Stott would call his bluff and actually give a second yellow. If that wasn't sanctioned, the game would've went downhill--it already got a bit chippy around the 65th minute, and it would've been worse had that not been called. I don't remember the Guzman tackle. I also think the no-call for the penalty incident was a great decision since Adi left his leg in looking for contact. Was the first red card in the Orlando City match for DOGSO? 01:15 in the highlights: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/06/04/4-minute-highlights-orlando-city-sc-0-0-chicago-fire
No. SFP. Studs straight into the knee. You can sort of see it if you pause at the right moment, but unfortunately all the camera angles are looking through the back of the Fire player, whereas Unkel had a perfect view to see the contact. Hopefully a better replay emerges because I have very little doubt this was a correct decision. And the second red card in that match cannot be more obvious.
OK thanks. Do you think it would have been DOGSO if it had not been SFP? EDIT: I'm thinking not because of direction, likelihood of winning ball, and second oncoming defender.
My favorite part about all this is that Orlando managed to somehow forget to post the identity of the pool reporter in the referre's locker room. They attempted to communicate the identity through the liaison, but apparently that wasn't enough and the officials couldn't answer questions post match due to league rules. Queue everyone losing their shit on Twitter over something that was their own damn fault. Anyway, looking forward to being vindicated by replay.
Have fun reading what is apparently "conventional wisdom," under #4 here: http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/gal...ed-cards-highlights-video-060417?sf85308516=1
I really hope PRO makes this the POTW, pulls out a great replay angle, and absolutely eviscerates these clowns.
Wasn't there some directive that these scissors tackles were supposed to be a send off? https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/m...dallas-vs-real-salt-lake/details/video/106096
Can't wait for VAR to come out. Can you imagine the uproar once this gets upheld? This is reason #3864 why referees will never win. The reaction to that red card is unbelievable from the media and players. They are making it seem like the worst call in the history of soccer, where most referees think it's between the correct call to maybe a little bit harsh, but defensible.
Very quietly the worst refereed pro game ever. Changed his own decision what, 3 or 4 times? Unheard of. The PK reversal? What in god's name did he even see the first time? Not sure how his AR talked him out of it, but good thing he did. Sad to see him have such a bad day at the office, but we all have them I suppose.
https://www.whitecapsfc.com/post/20...racter-we-showed-was-phenomenal?autoplay=true 5:50 mark There was no talk between the referee and AR. Just the direction of the foul screw up.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...s-week-14-debate-instant-replay?autoplay=true Once everyone sees the better angle, you'll be in the majority. At least the majority of people that know what a red card is supposed to be given for.
Yup. For whatever reason, it's much clearer on Instant Replay. Studs straight into the knee. Easily could have ended the attacker's season or career. Maybe unlucky on the defender's part to an extent, but still a red card.
You'd also be required to take a very clean touch of the ball out of the air. I know, its professional soccer, but damn I've seen so many bad MLS forwards this season.
Something tells me that even if we had a clear-cut angle of the Ramos red card, there would still be a huge amount of pushback from fans. The foremost argument being spewed by fans doesn't seem to be "this wasn't a dangerous challenge," but rather "he didn't know he was there." Obviously that doesn't change the fact that he thrust his spikes into his opponent's knee, but apparently many fans would be okay with fouls that could potentially cause career-ending injuries as long as it was just an accident.
A thousand times correct. You are responsible as a player for knowing where you are in space. I had a similar thing happen (with only a yellow) in a match this weekend. Attacker just plowed right through defender and came up and said he didn't see him. Too bad.
Man. Just watching Vincent's knee buckle on that challenge is enough for me. SFP and a red for sure. That could have easily given Vincent the unhappy triad. Plus, Unkel is in a better position than any of the TV angles to make this call. Unkel was perfectly positioned for Nocerino's red card, too. That's a no brainer. Finally, the leader of one of Orlando City's supporters groups doxxed Unkel on twitter after those decisions. Such a terrible move, and I hope Orlando City punishes the idiot fan for that one.
