APB for Rosenberry... looks like Fabi got "knocked" out.......... Over/Under on minute SAP, Ale and Jr. die: 35
Crapids lead 1-0. U looking predictably pedestrian after the two previous matches. You've got a squad Jim, use it. This referree sucks.
Ahhh there's the union I remember. Some other team was playing for the last three weeks and it had me confused.
Anybody truly surprised to this point? Having been around the guy a little bit back in the day, I feel a tad more comfortable deviating from my usual diatribe to use a different tact tonight. Let me approach this from the viewpoint of the opposition by sharing Mastroeni's pre-game talk for you as a public service: "boys: remember they don't call me Park the bus Pablo for nothing. Lads. it's Philly. You already know they ain't rotating shit. What? Winalwhom? Doesn't matter, he don't know nobody...... Military appreciation night? Hell=It's Suplex Sapong night! Scouting rept. indicates this club has gotten way too many calls it didn't deserve of late. NO WAY that continues. We're changing 7. They're changing 2. OK-we know the CB's ,keeper and Bosnian want to play from a rocking chair. The Striker & AM's are the ones doing all the heavy lifting. Sit back, soft press, turn them over and counter with speed and nobody will be able to chase you down. Maybe Timmy can show Blake what quality distribution is and then I could test my crazy theory that this keeper is shit from distance. Dominate the air and make these slugs beat you from ground level and you're golden. Easy peasy Union squeezy. "
I think this is the strangest MLS game I've ever seen. And as a Rapids fan from the beginning, I've seen a few strange ones.
Ain't that some shit...four wins on the trot. They looked tired in the first half but seemed more energetic after half time. In almost 20 years of watching soccer, I've never seen a sending off like Calvert ' s dismissal. The ref missed a lot of fouls both ways as well as the obvious back pass but he got the penalty call right. All in all a character building win. 12 more will just about negate that other streak...
I don't know how you can disagree with his call. The Rapids were delaying the restart from the minute they scored. Calvert goes down easy, milks it (i'm fine with this up to this point). The ref told him to go off the end line. He opted to continue to delay. Easy yellow for delay. The next one is a mandated yellow. He came on the field without getting permission. That's 100% on the player. Union do welll to come back and get the 3 pts. Gotta take the low hanging points when they are available.
I'm Parcellian in my outlook on sports. ( You are what your record says you are ) .500 for the first time since week 2, the Union have achieved a stat line Moses Malone could be proud of. They are living LARGE RIGHT NOW. For the first time ever, I feel compelled to divide- Three Stars: *** Wijnaldum / Bedoya- Would describe Gili's effort as "purposely tentative:. No big mistakes, error free futbol, dangerous on his first half cross and second half foray into the box. Knocked somebody down. All good. Have to show him some love on his debut. Ale gutted out another 90 + while hurt. A shout out to grit. ** Ref/ Simpson You want turning points ? Jay should have put the break away-he also should have started against those trees. No matter, he played twister with 2 trapids from 8 yards out and drew the penal that woke the crowd up. Whatever Earnie is paying these zebras......keep it up. *(MotM) : Madeinjanuary-not the kind of contest that allowed him great influence throughout, but when the opportunity arose he stepped up and delivered the game-winner. On this night though, Haris will just have to share. I cannot let this moment pass without a salute to Conor Casey. To get thrown out of your last two appearances in Philly............ #trueblueU
The ref wouldn't let Calvert back in and the trainer nudged him to go. Pablo lost his skittles and needed to be restrained. Oddest (if we lost then "worst") officiating I've seen. Yeah, that's a card to not be waved, but he stood there like three minutes waving and the ref said nah. On the other hand, Ale was really really lucky to get through that without two yellows.
I don't think you can be waved on from the end line. You have go to the sideline. That's why he was there for so long. The AR motioned for him to go to the side and if you watch the closeup video from mls on social media, the 4th official is telling Pablo the same thing Here's the video. Skip to the 35 second mark Colorado's Caleb Calvert and Conor Casey have been sent off.#JoinOrDie https://t.co/FtqFgt8yQs— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) May 21, 2017
